Jiraiya full power vs. Itachi full power

Isnt the technique that jiraiya taught to naruto (Kai) a standart gennin level jusu? Sakura was able to use kai during the invation of konoha. Maybe oro wasnt able to break out of itachis genjutsu because he couldnt use the kai hand seal.

Well we haven't seen a lot of people break the MS without Sharingan, so that kinda gives Itachi the edge. Plus, Jiraiya seemed to unaware of MS's jutsu considering he appeared dumbstricken when he saw Amaretsu, which means he likely doesn't know about the other two. I say that they likely tie, instead of picking a clear winner.

A high powered-offensive can help Itachi out in the fight.
It takes more than a few minutes for Jiraiya to even get INTO Sannin Mode... and to contrast that it only takes micro-seconds to be caught in a Genjutsu.

Jiraiya starts the fight in Hermit Mode. To paraphrase the OP, "Hermit Mode vs MS". Time isn't an issue here.

Well, eveb oro couldnt break out of itachi's standart paralazing genjutsu, thats why he lost a hand back then. Jiraiyas advantage is that he has frogs to help him get out of genjutsu, but without them I think jiraiya would probably not be able to scape any of itachis genjutsu.

Unlike Orochimaru, Jiraiya is not clueless about defending himself from genjutsu. He is the man who made the world's best genjutsu-user flee.

Do you honestly believe that one of the sannin, who spent his live learning ninjutsu and getting as many of them as he could, trying to understand everything he could about every jutsu in the world, doesnt know how to break out of a genjutsu??? The fact that he couldnt break out of itachi's genjutsu doesnt mean he doesnt know how to fight genjutsu, but that itachi's genjutsu is insanely strong.

Jiraiya can seal Itachi's Amaterasu, but I'm not sure if he can break out of Tsukuyomi...

I will have to go with itachi.
For jiraiya to seal amaterasu he has to pull out a scroll and draw which u really don’t have that much time to do that in a fight and we already know that jiraiya sucks at genjutsu probably making it one of his biggest weaknesses and I cant see his needle storm brigade attack been any faster that sasuke’s Kirin which itachi blocked so what is to say he cant block that as well but if itachi did manage to win it would only me by a hairs breadth.
He even admitted himself he could only draw at best

The best question would be if we have seen Itachi fighting using his full potential. I mean if Madara words were true Itachi didn't have the intention of killing Sasuke and thus he didn't fight with all he got (Zetsu Said this). But we don't know, I mean probably a kick of Jiraiya in Sennin mode would be more than enough to break Itachi apart. Is too complex to say, Jiraiya is not the mainly a gen jutsu user of which Orochimaru had a lot.

And we don't know if he knew how to fight a Sharingan user like Gai does. But like Zetsu said the Sharingan is a tool, the shinobi is who can make it a good weapon. I'll go with Jiraiya all the way down this time, due his experience and because he already saw the Amateratsu in action.

I will have to go with itachi.We have seen what jiraiya could do at full power but not itachi.If somehow jiraiya was able to stiil fight after amateratsu and Tsukuyomi,I can't think of anything that jiraiya could have to counter the powerful Susano.

first off we seen jiraiya fighting at his full...ya..he was fighting 6 guys!!! it would be a good fight, seeing how itachi has sharingan, but just because jiraiya doesnt use gengetsu doesn't mean he doesn't know how to counter it, remember he was teaching naruto how to counter it.

i have to go with Itachi too. what been said in this thread is true, we dont know what will happen if itachi goes all out with a strong intent to win....but also a battle with Jiraiya wont be easy no matter what.
we have seen Jiraiya fight and take out 3 pains, but that was due to the frogs' genjutsu mainly and secondly his power.

Itachi is a master of genjutsu and IMO it will be very hard to break his normal genjutsu or even Tsukuyomi if Jiraiya was placed in either of them, perhaps at that point he will go hermit mode to force his way out of it.

If Itachi uses Susanoo, then i dont see Jiraiya breaking the jutsu and harming Itachi.
If they have to fight, Itachi will win a very close win.

I also would have to give it to Itachi but mostly because his MS powers haven't been shown to have an outlet other than having another Sharingan.
- Tsukiyomi is said to require SHG to be broken.
- Susanoo is basically presented to us as the ultimate jutsu if it's used.

I think Jiraiya could find a way to bypass Amaterasu. The divine fire requires the user to see his target for the flame to zone onto it. If Jiraiya was able to incapacitate a man who had vision equaling Byakugan, then I think he could do something about Amaterasu. Even Sasuke was able to force Itachi to use a 2nd Amaterasu by being hidden behind his Goukakyuu(although I doubt that was on purpose lol )

Everything else is more or less murky. Itachi was apparently "not at full power" but then again, we DID see his 3 MS techniques and unless you want to argue he had other MORE powerful jutsus, the only thing that Zetsu said would've been different is his dodging of attacks and stuff. His power levels would probably be similar.

Also, this is probably the crappiest element so I won't use it extensively, but Itachi did avoid Jiraiya pre-timeskip. We know he had all 3 MS techniques back then yet he still insisted on not confronting Jiraiya directly. Even when it came to it, he ran away despite having Kisame at his side and all.

Anyways, I won't use this example a lot since it'll grow into an argument about interpretations but we should know this I guess, Itachi at the very least did fear Jiraiya so I'd say the assumption that whoever wins would win by a hair seems to be correct to me at least.

I have to give it to Jiraiya because itachi wouldn't dare to fight Jiraiya even when he had kisame with him. Also to people who keep saying Jiraiya will lose to itachi because he isn't genjutsu type, just because he isn't a genjutsu type doesn't mean he can't break out of genjustsu.

If I remember well, Jiraiya said he wasn't good at using genjutsu, as in casting it. He most likely knows how to dispel genjutsu fine since he was able to teach Naruto some basic techniques(albeit Naruto wasn't able to use them properly).

Also, to those who say the toad genjutsu wouldn't work on Itachi, we have no definite proof it wouldn't. Itachi is a master of visual genjutsu, i.e genjutsu initiated from sight, that's where the SHG comes into play. The toad genjutsu is initiated from sound, which makes it of a different type all together. We have no solid proof that the toad genjutsu would or wouldn't work on Itachi. It's a matter of how you see things basically.

The only issue I have is Susanoo basically. We've only glimpsed at it for a few chapters yet it seems invincible, but obviously it must have some kind of weakness otherwise Itachi would have been able to beat Madara or anyone else for that matter. We just haven't been presented with that weakness & Zetsu's constant praise of Itachi wasn't helping lol

even if jiraya can fend off amaterasu, and even if he can find a way to not be hit by tsokyoumi, susano'o will definitly kill him
