So it's probably written with 月. It also seems to have only one Kana as Furigana, since the next Kanji is 炎 'en', which has two Furigana and the whole word has three in total, so there's only one Kana left for that Kanji.

I tried to zoom in a bit, but that doesn't make it better, huh?^^

Looks like "飛" to me. Those three kana together = "飛炎" .
Sort of like how 今日 is きょう "kyou" and not "ima" + "hi"

(someone correct me if I'm wrong..)

Sorry, I no longer watch Naruto, and it's hard to guess what it is. The ones on the left are 炎遁・加具土命(えんとん・かぐつち), but it's hard to ses see the one on the right.
Could you remove the RED box just in case? What game is it by the way? You may want to find the list of jutsu names used in the Naruto game.

It does look like 飛 by looking at it, and 飛炎 (ひえん) seems to fit there perfectly. The problem that I have is that the hiragana letter on top of 飛 doesn't look like "ひ" to me. It almost looks like う.

Re: [JP] The Official Kanji Ask-for-Help Thread

Can anyone read the kanji here? http://puu.sh/6Jfir.jpg I'm tempted to say 完璧青, but that second kanji doesn't look quite right. In particular, the top right radical seems to be 寸 rather than 辛. The possible meaning of this phrase would also be helpful. TIA!

Also, is this http://puu.sh/6Jlde.jpg 劇場 with some sort of simplified kanji, or something else?

    The second one is just an abbribiation. 劇 = 虍 + 刂

I'm not sure about the first one though. The kanji has 寸 (not 辛) and 土 (not 玉)。 辛 could possibly be abbribiated and turn into 寸. So it can be 完壁, which is a common typo for 完璧 (perfect). If that's just a joke, it could be カンペキセイ(完璧性). Or... It's 完璧青年 with a typo + somehow missing 年. I really don't know.

---------- Post added at 12:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:22 AM ----------

Granted that 完壁 is a typo for 完璧(カンペキ), you could readi it as カンペキアオ--> かんぺきに あお super blue/totally blue or something as well. Good luck with it, cmertb.

Edit/add: カンペキアオ ーー> かんぺき あお, perfect blue is possible as well.

Re: [JP] The Official Kanji Ask-for-Help Thread

    Hi,
anyone here who could help me out a bit? I have this lovely 4-koma, but I'm unfortunately unable to decipher a few bits (and that makes it terrible hard to translate what's said... or even get the joke.) And unfortunately I'm unable to find higher quality scans, so...
    http://imageshack.com/a/img208/8616/d7it.jpg

This is as much as I can decipher.

    #1 私も〇〇〇

#2 カナは〇なさい (Kana is the name of the girl asking for tea)

    #3 一人〇問符浮かべてるわよ

Hope anyone is able to read these bits.
I somehow feel like they all should be really obvious, but somehow my mind just refuses to make any sense of it.

摑み is the one.. how'd you find it senpai? I just checked Jisho,

    1) it says it isnt one of the frequent 2500 kanji
    2) it doesn't have any proper info on the radicals..

    really need to know^_^;

    Re: Unidentifiable kanji

The kanji exists, and it's clearly legible, so there shouldn't be any problem looking it up by standard methods (of which there are a few). Well, as far as this particular one goes, I pretty much remember it. The dictionaries may say it's rare, but I see it in manga all the time. Incidentally, if you know that the common kanji for 国 is a simplified form of 國, so from that you can deduce that 掴 = 摑.

For unknown/forgotten kanji, my standard algorithm is as follows:
    1. If it's a verb with okurigana, try to guess what it might be, type it in, see if the kanji comes up. For a jukugo, try to guess what the on reading is -- if I recognize the radical that might give it its sound, type it in, see if the kanji comes up. For longer jukugo (3 or more kanji) where I recognize all but one kanji, type them in in google and see if the full word comes up.
    2. If the above failed, sigh.
    3. If the kanji is legible, draw it in IME pad.
    4. If the kanji isn't fully legible, sigh again.
    5. If some radicals are legible, go to http://jisho.org/kanji/radicals/ mark the radicals you see, maybe something will come up
    6. If nothing came up, sigh.
    7. Open up skype, see if any Japanese friends are online. Show them the screenshot.
    8. If they don't recognize it or are asleep, post the screenshot on MH and hope for the best

I think you skipped directly to step 8.

Edit: For step 7, you don't need Japanese specifically, if you just need a kanji in text form you can ask your Chinese friends just as easily. But again, you don't need to bug anyone if the kanji is legible. If you can see every one of its radicals, there are many ways of looking it up.

    • Review radicals: For example, read "All About Radicals."
    • Left part of kanji is called "hen." Tehen in 掴 means "hand," and it's one of the common ones.
    • Visit an online dictionary such as 常用漢字辞書 (jyouyou kanji jisho).
    • Select 部首から検索 (find kanji with radicals), then find the left-side radical under 3 strokes for tehen.
    • List of kanji with tehen can be found here[link]. Click on 掴 and find out how to read it.
