If you read the katakana, I think it's a ru instead of re.

In official Thai translation, I think they pretty much silent the u, so it read more like Meldy.

It is, メルディ is transscribed as "Merudi". I'd go for Meludi or Meludy on the first look, though. There's a French myth figure called Melusine that is transscribed as メルジーネ ("merujiine").

Close enough for me (me, ru, third katakany with dakuten) to put down "Meredy". Maybe someone wanted to bring up an amagram of "remedy".

That katakana part is probably what bothers me the most. Merudy got snubbed as a 'botched translation' despite being a more logical translation. Oh, and also the wiki has hated every name change ever. You can see an old discussion about how some people wanted to stick to Gerard because Jellal just didn't sound as cool.

And even though the wiki already had a note explaining that the kanji for Tenrou island were how you would spell the Sirius constellation, they snubbed the name Sirius Island because it didn't sound as cool and reminded a lot of people of Harry Potter.

I know that I may have missed something in trying to catch up with your posts about Fried and Mira's fight... Fried had already shown hesitation earlier about going all out. I don't think he would gave actually killed anyone and I think that's likely why he gave up perhaps more quickly vs Mira than he would have in a fight against a true enemy... But that's just the opinion of a noob. I am reading the manga through for the second time so I haven't studied it like some
