Fair enough. I see your point. See, jump has the chance to gamble because even if you discount One piece, they still have several other series in the mag that sell really well. Sunday is floundering, so it makes sense they don't want to gamble on new authors, and instead chose to get older established hits. I completely agree with you though, Negative. They should be trying to develop newbies into powerhouses but as long as Sunday is a distant third I don't see that happening. They'll want to stick with something that has brand recognition. With jump they know even if a rookie fails they have One piece to fall back on so they're more willing to try new people. Sadly Sunday needs to take a chance, and I don't see it happening for a while.

Well, I hope the editors to learn that it is not always good to be generous to the author. The editors should be little bit more harsh so the authors can work more harder than currently.

I can't really say I know how things work but I've heard Shogakukan's policies are why newbies seem to stay away from them. Dunno how true that is though.

By curiosity, what are exactly the rumoured Shogakukan's policies for those who don't know ?

Well, I think Magi's announcement will be most likely anime, so it will be a fourth one (well, it can be fifth one because I forgot to mention Senkore! (it started its anime on April)). I think it is too early talk about whether Anagle will get anime because it hasn't been serialized for a year and it's first volume sale wasn't really great either. Also, I think Anagle will last long because Sunday doesn't axe series in short time; however, I think Sunday has been too flexible on keeping series.

funny thing about magi the announcment about a special announcment with the OOO's it fits the kanji for anime perfectly so it probably is a anime. and we havent heard if hayates new anime is tv or not.

From what I know as a fact they lost Makoto Raiku's (Gash bell) original color pages, Kohji Kumeta also left when he was doing Kaizo and they've even lost Rumiko Takahashi's original color pages, that's why there is a Quasi-kanzenban Ranma being made in Spain but it doesn't contain the Color Pages (The Shogakukan Staff couldn't provide Glenat Spain with the source material i.e. the color pages.)

I'm not sure that is about Shogakukan's policies; that text just show that Shogakukan didn't treat well on their mangaka. Plus, those are pretty old examples and I don't think the current editors didn't treat the authors poorly.

Well that's as close to the truth as we will ever get IMO, unless a mangaka speaks the truth on a blog or something like that, which is very unlikely.

Shinjo Mayu and Raiku are the only mangaka I can think of that left Shogakukan acrimoniously. Other mangaka have left for other publishers, losing talent to competitors is the cost of doing business. Other than the incident with Raiku and Shinjo, both of whom had butthurt to get over, I have never seen anything concrete to suggest that Shogakukan is that much worth than the competition. That seems to be more of a fan construct after Raiku left for Kodansha. Kishiro Yukito left Shueisha acrimoniously last summer, yet working conditions at Shueisha are never questioned.

Well, it was announced as Yukito left Shueisha because of disagreement between the expression. But, it is not that rare for the authors to move to different publisher; for example, Peach-Pit and Hayashiya Shigeru move to Shueisha during middle of their serialization. Raiku's and Mayu's incident had become publicized because of the editor maltreatment toward the mangaka. I don't think it is always mean that the mangaka's relocation is the result of something really bad.

Does anyone have any idea that when Sunday series officially get ranked in ToC? Is it same as Jump or different?

I've never heard it mentioned. I think most people just kinda assume the same as Jump because we have nothing else to go on.

It looks like an era of Conan has may ended and an era of Gin no Saji has begun.

That's a question; whether GnS will be focus only on Hachiken's first year in school or full three years. However, I do think GnS isn't really suitable for a long series.
