Re: THE END OF TOONAMI (03/17/1997 - 09/20/2008)

    (Copypasta)

    "It's been a while, TOM."

    "That it has, Sarah."

"I can only assume your return to The Absolution means that we are finished."

    "Yep. Toonami's over."

Silence, save the hum of the machines in the background.

"So what does that mean for us?" TOM did not reply at first. Instead, he walked slowly to a large switch, wearing a frown. "TOM?"

"You already know," he said, clutching the switch.

"Yes," she said, a tinge of finality on her mechanical yet soothing voice, "I do."

    "Stay golden, Sarah."

"You too, TOM. I think... I will miss you," she said.

"No," said TOM, sighing sorrowfully, pulling the switch. "You won't."

Sarah's hologram flickered for a few seconds before fading. The machines around TOM died out too. The Absolution was absolutely silent. The only light left in the room emanated from a single red button across from the switch TOM had just pulled.

Even slower this time, he somberly ambled to the switch. He scanned his memory banks for any file relating to Toonami, feeling one last rush of nostalgia. Finally, after what seemed like an all too short eternity, he arrived at the button, reading the label above it.

    TOM Final Killswitch.

TOM, hand shaking, rested a single finger on the button. He sighed again, and whispered...

    "Bang."

Damn the CEO of Adult Swim. I hate the man because of his stupid preference for his out of whack shows instead of great anime that drew crowds in the first place. I hope Toonami returns.

Re: THE END OF TOONAMI (03/17/1997 - 09/20/2008)

I was severely disappointed that this happened, and I am glad someone made a topic on this. Toonami was the best part of Toonami for many, many years, and I have always felt that Cartoon Network was a little resentful of it. It tried for years to promote their own series of lesser quality of Toonami, and then they started to mess with Toonami's greatness itself. They first restricted it to only Saturdays. Then, they took away all of its great shows without putting anything new into those spots. Then, Toonami went to being only 2 hours with Naruto being one of the hours and re-runs being the other. They set it up to fail and got rid of a massive audience for no good reason other than simply not wanting to appeal to that demographic any more. Toonami was awesome, and it was the main reason I watched Cartoon Network (not counting Adult Swim).

Toonami will always hold a special place in my heart. It was Toonami that first introduced me to anime from which I have been hooked ever since. If I ever meet one of the executives for CN that was involved in this conspiracy, I shall give him or her a piece of my mind.

Toonami, Tom, Sarah, Moltar, those other robots who I didn't actually like, and all of the great shows of Toonami's past, I will always love you. Rest in peace.

Woah, this came as a bit of a shock. I remember watching toonami like crazy when I was in middle school, back in the days when Reboot! was the shit and dragonball Z was new and appealing.

    This....sort of blows.

Man, I miss the days when Toonami was on every day. I remember watching G Gundam after school. In a way, I'm glad it's going. They've been letting it dangle in the wind for so long, moving it to just Saturday nights and regularly running other programming into its time slot. Plus they were loading it with subpar shows.

Toonami? Gone? That was the best part of the Cartoon Network.

There should be an exclusive anime channel! Anime 24/7 FTW! I should do some research into this stuff and how it all works.

It was a good 11 years toonami, even though you slowly went bad due to Cartoon Networks stupidity you will always be awesome in my book.

Re: THE END OF TOONAMI (03/17/1997 - 09/20/2008)

It's not a surprise really, most people could see it coming from miles away. Tom 04 was more or less the end of Toonami and 03 didn't quite keep the quality of Toonami up though it was negligeble. Anyways most people realized that Toonami wasn't living up to the standards that it had once had even a year or two earlier. Besides they steadily cut it down from 4 hours on saturday to 2 hours on saturday and then putting Ben 10: Alien Force on...ugh.

The only real thing those douches in Cartoon Network cared about was ratings and Toonami was steadily getting the lowest ratings. Ironiclly Cartoon Network is the one at fault for this for forcing shows like Bakuman(WTF??) Ben 10: Alien Force(Ben 10 itself isn't miserable but... yeah) etc. on it. Most of the shows couldn't hope to keep Toonami up, hell the only decent one that wasn't reruns or something was probablly Naruto and that in no way was going to keep the sinking boat up. They got rid of even total Emersion events, who didn't love those and the Tom's even had great storylines those were as good as the actual series. Why in the world did In this way I feel that it was best that Toonami was retired early, it was becoming a bit of a joke with the quality of it and I want Toonami to be retired before it went really bad(aka Naruto Fillers).

The quality might have sucked but I'd be lying if I said that Toonami doesn't share extremely fond memories in my heart. Hell I still remember Johnny Quest and Thunder Cats to some extent back when Moltar was around. DBZ, Cowboy Bebop, Sailor Moon etc all those old anime's were amazing, I still remember coming back from school and getting all excited because of it. I remember some of the game reviews too the biggest one that comes to mind was a game called "Mosquito" or that game that he gave a "?" mark score to.

Toonami probablly contributed to at least half of the Anime fans in America today, direcly or indirectly. I'd be willing to bet that this forum or any other forum about Anime/Manga wouldn't even be near as active if it weren't for Toonami.

I liked the Cowboy Bebop reference.

    Bang!
