I think the strongest VC is renji simply because he has bankai. The other VC are efficient in their own ways but nothing they have shown leads me to believe they could handle the power of a bankai even if premature. Even if the bankai he uses is premature, using it would be better than using his shikai. Basically the same thing can be said about Ikkaku. Afterward I would argue yumichika is the next stronger one simply because of his ability. Even when the oponent seemed to have had more than significant speed, strength, stamina and technique his shikai has been able to turn the tables in an instant and without leaving a chance for victory (hisagi and coolhorn). I don't see how any VC would actually escape that at this point. Maybe matsumoto due to the ability of her zampakuto but even if she does escape her power would be significantly diminished. I also don't see kira using his zampakutp after being caught but even then he would only make that which binds him heavier which is not necessarily a good thing. After those I would think it would be anyone between matsumoto, hisagi, kira and yachiru. Only problem in choosing between them is that victory would depend a lot on each of their abilities can counter that of the other.

Renji's bankai is just like Ichigo's it's new and they are just figuring out is potential. I think his Bankai isn't bad as Renji's power increases the more power he can add to the crushing power. Hihiō Zabimaru's head is as big as a car swinging that around at a great speed is great. He just doesn't have the spirit power as the other captains.

Hisagi Shuuhei could be another case. He's well rounded kept his team well bounded even though his captain betrayed everyone. He even defeated his ex captain. He seems to be close to Bankai

Rukia is almost as good as Renji. He powers are good she is not at the level as Tōshirō but her shekai is about the same level as his. She was the only one to beat an Espada without bankai even though he was the weakest, but he knew all of Rukia's attacks and trained her so defeating him was all the more bad ass.

Rukia was extremely lucky that Aaroniero made a fatal mistake... Honestly its pure dumb luck that she did...and I don't think her shikai powers are near as powerful as Hitsugaya. Shuuhei seems like the best VC in terms of raw ability excluding renji's bankai...He seems like the best overrall

It was luck at the end but #9 retained all of Kaien's memories. Giving him a huge advantage. Hitsugaya only uses one attack from his shekai the ice dragon.

Please the difference between Hitsugaya's shikai and Rukia is like night and day. The raw power gap is ridiculous, even suggesting otherwise is madness. The stregth of that ice dragon is much greater than anything she can produce, but most importantly even in Shikai he has that Tenso Jurrin Power which goes beyond anything she could ever achieve imo. Hell I'd take Hitsugaya's shikai over Ikkaku or Renji's bankais Any day.

Hmm Renji having mastered his bankai would be good, and he probably has the greatest reiatsu out of any VC, but I personally think that bankai or not, Hisagi, Yumichika and possibly Kira would all be able to off him due to being all around better Shinigami than he is or due to a super hax ability like Yumichika's
