Neither Can I, It's weird how my friend found out about it through MTV, but I wonder what it is going to be about, maybe the movie?

From the word "prototype", I wonder if that is equivalent to "pilot"? Like the test chapter Arakawa had before the real FMA? That was the impression I got from the title... But you may be right and it could be related to the movie... Or something totally unrelated altogether After all if it was movie related I think they would mention it (to hype the movie)...?

Quite possibly, Maybe you are onto something about it being the pilot? The only problem I see is that we already know what happens to cause the start of the manga, so it might feel a bit rehashed.

It depends, really. Some pilot chapters are very much similar to the real thing, some are very different. Basically a pilot chapter is used as the mangaka's testing ground. For example, some differences between Death Note and its pilot chapter:

In the pilot chapter, there was a "death eraser" so when you erased a name from the Death Note, the person would be revived. Character designs were also quite different and iirc the protagonists were younger

It might feel a little rehashed, depending on how different it is, but I miss FMA so much I probably wouldn't feel it Anyway, I expect we will get more info soon, then we'll be able to say what kind of story it is and whether it is even a "pilot" chapter

Fullmetal Alchemist will have deluxe edition. Two first volume will be out 22 june. After 1 each month.
And about Fma Prototype, this special chapter (published in june) will be a pilot chapter that author had draw 10 years ago.

It seems that this prototype chapter is basically a manga drawn from the 61 pages of names (drafts, rough sketches) of a one-shot Arakawa had submitted before finally drawing FMA as we knew it. I hope someone scanlates this! Anyway, here's a summary from the news article I read:

Elric Brothers are on a journey to find something, and find themselves in the desert town of Crowatoll (TN: I'm bad at translating names, forgive me). The townspeople ask them to make water for them because they are suffering due to a drought, the older brother Edward refuses, saying that they do not have a large amount of money to give them as a reward. Just then, they decide to bring a certain request to Major Alzen, who governs the town.

I am really interested in seeing this scanlated by someone, because I know there probably is group somewhere doing it, even though it is just a pages that were just names at a point...

I think MangaStream might do it, since they did the epilogue chapter. Though really, I'm sure any group would jump at this simply because it's FMA *crosses fingers*

Having to draw the manuscript for this might have been why Silver Spoon had to take a one-week break

I'm pretty excited for this "prototype" and to see how close it is to the FMA we know. I'm most interested to see if alchemy is the same as what Arakawa invented for the FMA world or if it's different, and if so, in what ways. Plus, I wanna see what pre-FMA Ed and Al (and if this Major Alzen was the basis for anyone in the series) look like! The cover of the magazine show Ed and Al as we know them (but then again, the thing about the brother being an armor suit and Ed having metal limbs is not mentioned in the synopsis), but they might have totally different character designs in the prototype. Can't wait
