    Re: Weekly Shounen Magazine (Kodansha)

Yes, Kodansha is less likely to cancel series than the other publishers. This is what experts refer to as an exception. Happy Project must have been exceptionally unpopular, thus they chose to make an exception and cancel early.

I didn't know that Kodansha tend to less strict when it comes to cancellation. I thought the system is like its rival magazine, so it is still possible you get cancellation with only two tankobons issued.

Honestly I don't understand whether Kodansha action is good or bad for the WSM, though. It has the 2nd largest circulation in Japan, yet only Fairy Tail which is included in Top 20 Best Selling Manga in Japan (2011).

Well it has 3 in top 25. And if you want a magazine for its sports manga WSM is the best one with most variety. This last year a lot of theirs oldest series ended, let's see how the new ones do.

    Re: Weekly Shounen Magazine (Kodansha)

Number of titles ranking on the Oricon charts is a very poor way of judging popularity. Jump is an exception, other magazines do not seem to put the same emphasis on manga selling 500,000 copies per volume. Manga accounts for over 80% of the published material in Japan. Less than 1% of the manga produced ever ranks in the Oricon top 30. Profit margins must vary by magazine, and again by publisher. Generalization is probably impossible, and intellectually lazy, but it is very obvious that Jump is an anomaly. Shounen Magazine KC's business model is not dependent on manga selling 500,000 per volume. The same is true of virtually every other magazine, with the exception of Weekly Shounen Jump.

Oricon only charts units sold, not total revenue generated. While Shueisha ranked first in units sold for the first half of 2012, Kodansha generated the most revenue. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...t-half-of-2012

    Re: Weekly Shounen Magazine (Kodansha)

i have somehow the feeling that they just mirror the toc every few weeks.

    Baby Steps
    Eden no Ori
    Kimi no Iru Machi
are in the bottom half, in some chapter they will be all up.

    Gamaran
    GE - Good Ending
on the other hand these two are often bottom dwellers, but not in this mirror week

and these ones are mostly in the middle
    Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo
    CØDE:BREAKER
    AKB49〜Renai Kinshi Jourei

but in the end, the toc doesn't matter as much as it does in jump.

    Re: Weekly Shounen Magazine (Kodansha)

Nobody has ever really believed that fan polls determine TOC order. ShoMag definitely collects postcards, fans definitely vote, but the TOC does not seem to reflect fan rankings. They will occasionally cancel a new series (Happy Project, Starchildren), but far less often than Jump, or even SQ.

akamatsu is getting ready for another project or is it about negima? or is it about the law suit for giving magazines absolute control over the published material.
i am getting nervous now rather than relax.
