Earlier in this thread someone mentioned that Viz altered Neji's sign to an x.. Did they really? I remember reading it in a bookstore, and it had the original art (but there was a caption under the picture that said something like 'the sign on his forehead is a buddhist symbol').. D:
Anyway, I do agree that Viz is pretty weird with the censorship - I saw the Greed cross thing, too. Just like '666 Satan' is 'O-Parts Hunter'.
More errors I noticed in the Viz version:
-Ling's name is spelled 'Lin'. But Arakawa spells it 'Ling Yao' on his prisoner tag..
-In vol. 9, when Al barges into the hotel room with the newspaper: Edward says "Ed, you scared me". o_O This one pissed me off the most. It's so careless.
-King Bladley's name is 'Bradley'. In ch. 75, Arakawa spells it 'Bladley' - though I heard some translators complain that the second person Lieutenant Hawkeye mentioned in her story was Rebecca, so is that a mistake on Arakawa's part? D:
-I think Salim's name is 'Salem'. Again, in ch. 75, Arakawa reveals the actual spelling.
A lil bit off topic.. How much does a VIZ verision of FMA manga costs?

If you look at them both carefully, you'll see that the Nazi sign is actually a mirrored version of the Manji.. (is that what it's called?)
well, that's what i learned in history, at least xD

As far as I know, the cross thing is the -only- thing they've changed, so it doesn't really matter to me.
As for Neji, it's a cross in both versions of the Anime. It's the manji in both versions of the manga. Viz changed it to a cross in Shonen Jump, but left it alone in the GN.
The crucifixion thing is apparently covered, but I will say as an artist, that pisses me right the f*ck off. I'd never stand for that bs in a million years. I can understand the Barry the Chopper thing in the last volume, but... Arakawa could've always just put in a footnote how she messed up here. I remember other mangaka doing stuff like that (YuyuHakusho and Kenshin come to mind), addressing the reader with little notes. Editing out a couple pages of a volume that has four chapters of a manga kind of blows.
Translation-wise, I cannot stand the translation of "Gate" to "Portal". Gate is such a cooler and more fitting word for what is most obviously a gigantic GATE.
Kimbly was fine as the Crimson Alchemist. Red Lotus sounds inaccurate, cheesy, and has one more syllable- something i don't enjoy when reading are cumbersome, extra syllables.
