I think his ability is not as powerful as it sounds. If he actually beat Oni (which I don't think is necessarily true, because draws are totally possible in POT), that implies he had to lose to at least 2 other people because otherwise he'd have to be the #1 player in the first year (assuming Oni only lost to him), so there's obviously a way to beat him. Since Byodouin was training in the mountain, that'd mean Tanegashima was beaten by someone who is almost certainly a tier below Oni at some point, unless he pulled a 'I decided not to be #1 because it got boring' like Oni did.
It'd not be effective against guys who have weak or even no special moves. Any effect that buffs only yourself can't get countered either. This is assuming that when we get to Ryoga or Byodouin they don't just say 'actually my abilities can't get countered'.

Couple spoiler pics have been posted, three chapters this month. Here's the thread link:
Some notes from Sai:
-100 and 98 refer to the distance Sanada and Akutsu have to slide respectively to reach Tanegashima's Null return.
-Yukimura says he understands why Sanada decided to pair with Akutsu.
Also if I'm seeing this right, Ryoma has managed to blast a hole through the fence and tree.
It looks awesome. Here's hoping there's a lot more juicy part left still.
Meh, it's average, doesn't have enough Sengoku...
Great, Ryoma's a power player now.
Holy crap, someone has to redo Ryoma's power stat and put an 8 to it
Why all the diving? Can't they just volley the void ball?
Yeah, I thought the same. It seems like, for some reason, they have to stay in the baseline and then dive in the most synchronized way possible
I hope Konomi explains why they forgot they can volley.
Maybe the null ball is aimed so perfectly that not even the guy volleying can reach it, I dunno.
Also... wasn't Sanada able to teleport? lol
With Rai, Shuuji's already shown that he can stop Rai (although you don't have to hit the shot after teleporting as Ryoma showed up), but given that Shuuji has superior rallying skills, that would just destroy Sanada's stamina and definitely lose them the match.
I do agree that the diving is a bit silly, however.
But how are these attemp of diving shots (... that fail most of the times apparently, can easily be returned with winners, and can injure the players) any better than taking a risk with 1 guy volleying or Sanada using a BA! Rai.
Sanada can only teleport a certain number of time. I calculated it once when I talked with Kaoz. The highest confirm number that Sanada can use Rai right now is 33 times. That simply isn't enough for 3 set match, if he were to use it in normal rally. It might not even be enough for 1, considering that Rai is useless on Shuuji.
And if Sanada leg is out, they are just out of this match.
33 times? When was that?
In his match with Tezuka before he absolutely can't move his leg anymore.
Oh, before getting into the U-17 camp, doing the mountain training, and getting a boost not only in stats but getting a new and super strong aura. I believe he should be fine.
But of course, Konomi won't mix 2 OP moves that would make the new super strong character look useless. Tanegashima is too good, it looks like he's the one teleporting and hitting super shots out of nowhere.
