The chapter starts with Rin's words.
"Ever since I was young, I knew that I was different from others."
A blood-stained young Rin stares at his hands in horror as another boy screams in pain in front of him. Someone called for the director (of the orphanage or school? I have no idea.). Rin starts throwing tables around as a random female teacher told him to calm down and go to her. Rin shouts that she is a nuisance and told her not to come near him. The door opens and Shiro comes in, calling Rin's name just as he threw a drawer of toys near the door. (OMG, Rin is super strong for a child.)
Rin calls out to Shiro, who replied that the boy Rin had injured had broken his nose and fractured his wrist, and was in pain. Rin said that he deserved it for calling him a demon and a monster, and that Rin wasn't at fault. Shiro insists that he was at fault and told him to go over to him and stop throwing things around. Rin shouts in anger. A random woman behind Shiro wonders what had made Rin make such an expression. The chair that Rin threw hit Shiro's right arm, which he had used to deflect the chair.
Walking over to Rin, Shiro hugged a shocked Rin, and a cracking sound is heard. Hiding his face from Rin, Shiro winces. I think Rin was punching him. Rin pulls away from the hug after hearing Shiro wince, and Shiro asks him if he'd gotten a shock with a weird expression. Patting Rin on the head, Shiro told him that if he continues to act like this, there will come a point in time when he'll be left all alone. Shiro tells him to use his strength in a gentler manner for someone or something, and that he hopes Rin can become someone who is loved by many girls in the future. (LOL.) A confused Rin asks Shiro how he could do that, and Shiro says that he can do it by controlling himself, and not giving up on that. In the process of doing so, he'll be able to become that kind of person.
After he'd convinced Rin, Shiro falls to the ground, saying that he can't take it anymore and asks for someone to call for the ambulance. Rin's words state that Shiro had broken three of his rib bones. Young Rin calls for Shiro, who asked him what kind of an expression he was giving, and that he was not so easily defeated by Rin's punches. He said he did it on purpose so that he can be under the care of nurses with huge breasts. Then he turns to the medic and tells him to be gentler with him. Rin's words write that he wants to become someone like his father in the future.
Cover page is a picture of Shiro, young Rin and young Yukio. The text says, "Heart-warming- The memories of father-"
Scene switches to another flashback, where Mephisto and the female instructor were talking. The female instructor says, "Rearing Satan's son as a weapon of the True Cross (Organisation? Order?)! Fujiwara Shiro and Mephisto Pheles might have concealed the true events of what happened in the Blue Night... Immediate elimination... The trouble that started because of Teacher's hesitation shall be ended by his student."
Rin lies on his bed. He can't get to sleep and rises from his bed with a funny posture. His demon cat wakes up and asks him if he's going out to play. If so, he wants to go along too. Rin tells him to keep silent so that they won't wake Yukio up because Yukio is scary when he is woken up. As they tiptoe out of the door, Yukio opens his eyes.
Rin and his familiar sit on the top of the tower at the school. Rin thinks to himself that with his stupid brain, he won't be able to get any answers even if he racks his brains.
Flashback to the point when the female instructor takes his special sword away and replaces it with a wooden one. She says that she'll return his sword when she wants to, and if he is unhappy, he can go and look for her, and prove to her that Shiro was right. Rin thinks that what he can do now is to train, and fights with his familiar (who thinks that they are just playing games. XDD So cute!).
As they start, Rin believes that he doesn't have to think about anything and to just move forward. In the morning, at the school, Rin thinks that the guys at the advanced classes have also finished their classes for this semester as well. The bald guy calls out to him and comments that it's the first time he has seen Rin outside of cram school.
It seems that they are supposed to gather at the railway station after their lessons and the bald guy asks Rin to go with them. The bald guy says that in the summer, the normal students would most likely be going home, and Rin asks about whether Kyoto was a nice place. The girl (I still haven't recalled her name, but she's the one who treated Shiemi badly) tells them to hurry up or they'll be late. Bon calls her "thick eyebrows who is a pain".
Yukio tells them that they'll be having a three-day camp at the academy's forest in this "happy summer". The female instructor will also be going along with them. Yukio tells them about the objectives of this camp but it's not really important to the plot so I shall just skip it. Oh wait, the camp would also determine if they are suitable to go on real missions (and not the ones that they run errands). Since the camp is part of their exam, they are to do their best.
As the group trek in the forest, someone comments that it wasn't a training camp but military training, and they start complaining that their backpacks were heavy, it's too hot, there's a lot of mosquitoes... And Rin exclaims that there's a waterfall.
Happily walking over, he drinks the water. The guys are wondering why he is always so full of energy, and someone else answers that it was because his energy is endless like the universe. Rin happily comments that it was like being on an excursion trip.
When they reached the campsite, Yukio warns everyone that the place is safe in the day but dangerous at night due to the demons. He then splits the work and the guys are supposed to start the fire and set up camp while the girls are to cook dinner and help the female instructor set up a magical barrier.
Taking off his coat, Yukio tells everyone to get to work, and Bon and his friend (the one who's not bald) say that he'd finally taken off that coat and that they thought he was a superman because the weather was very warm.
Rin had lots of fun setting up the tents (and collapsing them). Shiemi laughs and says that she's happy. The other girl (I think her name is Kagami?) says that it's so warm and stuffy. Shiemi comments that boys are amazing but Kagami thinks that she's the amazing one because she could still stay with her as friends although she told her in the face that she hates her. She thinks that Shiemi is dumb and everyone else there is weird. The instructor slacked away in a tree while Shiemi and Kagami slogged their guts out. LOL.
While the girls were cooking, Rin kept staring at them until he couldn't take it anymore and took over from them. The girls were amazed that he was so good at cooking.
Everyone is shocked at Rin's culinary skills which "won't embarrass him whomever he gets married to". (Just as a side note, this usually applies to girls, not boys like Rin. XD) Rin blushes and says that this is just something that he's good at. Yukio then says that it's the only thing he can cook and that it was only curry. XD Rin turns and tells him to "shut up, stupid glasses".
Rin realises that this is the first time he's felt like this. Flashback. Young Rin overhears a conversation between Shiro and someone who says that he's sorry but he's too scared to interact with Rin. Shiro tells him that there's nothing to be afraid of and to just treat Rin like a normal child. But the guy says that although it appears fine on the surface, everyone is actually very scared of him. Shiro's words about becoming a gentler person ring as young Rin eats with a bunch of adults, tries to help a kid get his balloon that was stuck in the tree but broke it, and helps an old lady to get out of her house by lifting up a car which was blocking the entrance. He beat up a guy who laughed at a girl for confessing to him, and Shiro had to drag him to apologise. It came to the point when Rin just gave up on school, and just skipped school.
Rin then realised that it was the first time he'd felt like this because he had always been missing out on school activities, and that although he didn't really understand it, he supposed that that was what it felt like to be surrounded by friends.
Shiemi comments that she is happy because Rin looks happy now. It seems like she'd been taking notice of him for the past few days and she was worried about him because he looked troubled. Since he's so happy now, she can finally breathe a sigh of relief. Yukio says that she has been very concerned about his brother (he's probably being jealous) but she doesn't hear it.
After dinner, Yukio gets them to gather to hear the mission details (and the female instructor is drunk). Bon and the others wonder why she can drink when she's only 18, but Yukio says that she's already 20. In retaliation, she hits him with an empty can.
Anyway, the mission is to find a lantern, light it, and bring it back to the campsite. They have 3 days to complete it, but there's only 3 lanterns. The ones who succeed in lighting the lantern and bringing it back will be assigned a practical mission. Each lantern is placed within 500m radius of the campsite, and there's only 3 people who can be qualified for the missions. He then goes on to explain the items in the given backpack, but it's too tedious and I can't understand the specific functions of some of those items so I shall just skip those. In the backpack, there's water and rations for 3 days, sleeping bag, towel, toilet paper and other necessities, compass, torchlight, and an exorcising firestarter (or something like that). If they use the firestarter to call for help, they won't be able to light the lantern and they'll lose the qualification to take part in a practical mission.
After the briefing, the female instructor warns Rin against using his blue flames, otherwise, she'll have to report him to the higher-ups in the organisation. When that happens, Knights (well, some kind of exorcists who are more powerful than the instructor) will be sent to assasinate him, who are "more terrifying than demons and are like monsters". Then she goes back to ask him how he would fight without his flames and a wooden sword. Finally, she patted him on his back and told him to "use with care".
Rin scratches his head after the instructor has walked off (well, I suppose he scratched his head, since it doesn't look like he's shaking his head and the words are kind of small for me to read properly...), and Bon walks up to him. Bon asks him where his confidence from just now had gone to, and whether he was afraid. Rin replied with a "HUH?". Bon then goes on to explain that the mission was for them to fight one another for the qualification of the practical mission and he said that they shouldn't help one another. The rest said similar things and they set off on their mission.
Everyone starts running in different directions, and Rin gets attacked by moths. The others are also attacked by the moths. Kagami uses her familiars to fight them, the bald guy uses his scriptures (I think) and Bon uses his holy water. Bon wonders if the blood-sucking moths were poisonous. Scene cuts to Rin, who wonders how everyone was coping with the situation. Shiemi uses her tiny familiar to summon powder that can repel the moths, which were blocking her view. I think one of the moths tore the paper she used to summon her familiar, and she is left to fight alone. She screams, and Rin hears her.
Rin rushes to find Shiemi, and swipes the moths off Shiemi, who was buried by the swarm. Shiemi has fainted from the attack. Rin loses his temper and lets out his blue flames, as he wants the moths to get out of his way. After doing that, he cursed, and thought to himself that he had lost control again, and kept telling himself to calm down as he pants from the exertion of releasing his flames. The surviving moths make some weird noise and flew away. Rin scolds himself for being used to releasing his flames, and he thinks that he hasn't changed since he was a child. He asks the unconscious Shiemi if she were okay (aww, come on, she has fainted, so why would he ask such a stupid question?).
At this point, Bon steps into the scene, and asks Rin what he had just done.
The text in the last panel writes, "Has he been found out?" (The rest is about the colour pages for the next issue.)
