You'd think that. It's quite amazing. the story is still in depth and still manages to catch my attention. Every fight is well prepared and has a good story around in. The character development continues in a good way. It's really still the same great manga that started in 1990. It doesn't rush things and doesn't spread things out (Ippo hasn't become WBA Champion yet. And still it isn't like they're filling).

    Great manga to replace this

Well, I'll admit I was lucky with that, French government were giving me money for my studies (up to 300 euros/month some years), and my monthly expenses at the time were something like 50 euros. So yeah, the French government paid for my mangas xD

Why? There are hundreds of scanlated mangas out there, not all at the level of ES21 for sure, but there's still a lot of those that are definitely worth the read (my sure-kill trio would be One Piece, Berserk and Full Metal Alchemist). If ES21 opened you the door to the world of mangas, the least you could do is give a chance to others, right?

Re: What to do after the end of ES21?

Ah good old ES21 gave me the same feeling like one piece. A good mate had to convince me three times to read it and I honestly don't regret it at all (very good sports manga is leaving us )

    Well for good sports altrenatives:
check jump's kuroko no basket or weekly shounen magazine's area no kishi. I personally prefer the latter one because it's more storytelling than kuroko no basket (for the record area no kishi is about soccer). It doesn't jump on the tournament concept as fast as most wsj sports (probably other ones too) manga did. However, Kuroko's action sequences during a match are really good and appeal me a lot if you ask me.

And for action - people who are a bit full of the overproduced and overconsumed naruto and bleach - I could definitely advocate you to read psyren (click my banner)
The biggest virtue is to support these Seven Deadly Sins in their fight!!!
    Read Nanatsu no Taizai

Maybe I'll start up Hajime no Ippo again. Just catching up to where it is now will take me months, probably, lol.

I took a look at One Outs.. I don't know if I'm going to be able to deal with the art style, but the story seems alright. I don't care about baseball at all, but then again, I didn't really like football all that much when I started ES21, either.

One Piece, Hajime no Ippo, HunterxHunter (horrible Art^^) are my favorites. And for Hajime no Ippo you will need about a year to catch up
Chapter 854 is the newest, so prepare for some reading^^

Air Gear, Veritas and Fairy Tail are all good too.
New Prince of Tennis, Soul Eater are monthly.

Yakitate! Japan is good and so is Beelzebub.
GTO is a good completed series as well as Black Cat.

Kingdom Hearts is pretty good too.

Shamooooooo. It's a good martial arts genre manga but you have to get over the first butt rape scene. It gets pretty good though, very raw and an interesting main character who really does not give a fuck. It's not for children though.
Sometimes I think that anime and manga today is all thanks to the Atomic Bombs.

Not really much for me to look forward to in the future, manga-wise. One Piece and Kuroko are good, but nothing has really hooked me the way Eyeshield 21 did before. It's what pretty much allowed me to give other sports series a chance. Slam Dunk was magnificent but I didn't have to suffer through the suspense of a weekly series.

Maybe one day Hunter X Hunter will come off hiatus. Until I guess I'll have to wait on Inagakis' next series; if there is one.
I suggest Whistle! It's pretty good although there's more of the tankoubons than there are online chapters right now.
