Is that a low number for Shin Prince of Tennis? It seems low to me. I hope that's not a bad sign, I am actually enjoying it.

That's not an actual volume. It's the Pair Puri releases, which are basically mini-databooks centered around a couple of characters. For that type of release, it's pretty good. It's not that far behind the Naruto 10th Anniversary fanbook, despite the fact that one is a big 10th anniversary commemoration and the other is a monthly release without much fanfare.

One Piece doing quite well... How much was the first printing again? Like 2.5 million?

Toriko sold more than Mago in its second week, though Mago still sold more this round overall.

And I'm amazed how much Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) sells... No wonder it's getting a second anime.

I'm happy Ane and Medaka are approaching 100k. Great sales for early volumes. One Piece is just staggering. This could end up being it's most popular volume ever. Good article at ANN about this.

One Piece is like an unstoppable force right now. Kuroshitsuji is tempting me to read its manga after all. It will be nice if Kure-nai breaks 100K.

Am I reading that correctly? If so that is just ridiculous that One Piece takes up more than 25% of the top 200 for a week. I mean volume 1 is, what, 12 years old now? Surely at some point sales will begin to decrease for One Piece. Right? Riiiiiight?

1.7 million in 2 weeks is amazing. Apparently, it's almost surpassed volume 55.

By the way, which is currently the highest selling volume of One Piece?

My guess would be volume 1. It makes the most since when you think about it. If volume 1 is in the top 200 right now then it is always selling well. Over the years I'm sure volume 1 has a huge number of sales and multiple printings. Even I'm the type of guy to only own volume 1 and not finish collecting the series.

Volume 27 is the current bestseller. Sold 2,630,000 in it's first pressing. /Kaiten

yeah, but that's just 1st pressing, volume 1 didn't get that many copies for it's first run

    Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

Akiyama is probably correct 90% of books not just mangas have the best seller as number 1. most people would buy 1 and not finish the series. its rare someone buys a volume half way thruogh the series without buying number 1. although second and 3rd volumes might get higher on the charts thats because the series of books is already a hit so there will be more printed therefor more people can buy them in a week.

    Re: Weekly Oricon Comic Rankings

I don't know if it has been mentioned here.

But there's an Oricon Top 200, and One Piece made it in with ALL 56 volumes.

    edit-

    Quote Quote:
All 56 volumes of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga ranked on Oricon's chart of the top 200 manga books for the week of December 7-13 in Japan. Shueisha just published 2.85 million copies of volume 56 alone on December 4 — the largest print run that any Japanese manga has ever had in its first printing.

So far, Shueisha has published over 176 million copies of the books in the series, and 14.7 million of them were sold from November 17, 2008 to November 22, 2009. This made One Piece the top-selling series of 2009. The four top-selling manga books published in 2009 were One Piece volumes 52 to 55. (Volume 56 was not included since it shipped after the survey cutoff date.)

The sales of the manga were boosted this past week by the promotions surrounding the 10th One Piece anime film. Oda personally oversaw One Piece Film Strong World, which opened on December 12. The film earned 1.038 billion yen (about US$11.7 million) this past weekend, which is more than Ponyo or Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince garnered in their first two days in Japanese theaters.

Oda confirmed in an Asahi Shimbun article in November that he had planned to end the series in five years and has had the image of the final chapter established in his mind for a long time. However, creating the episodes that lead to that ending has taken longer than he had anticipated. In the manga's 13th year, he would like to say that he is 9/10ths of the way towards the end, but he acknowledged that he is only halfway there.

Viz Media is planning to ship volumes 24 to 53 in North America between January and June of 2010 — or five volumes per month.

thanks xadyu im really surprised at how well one peice does in japan. i like it clearly more then naruto. viz has just given it the wrong exposure. its seen as a little kids manga here all the 10-13 year olds read it. people my age will be like OP wtf is that. then ill say DL it because viz hasnt published much. and people will like it more then naruto. i know i have. One Peice has really been given the wrong exposure by viz. they set it up for the wrong market. but i guess thats there problem >.<, they should slap stickers all over it saying BEST SELLER IN JAPAN! rather then a little pirate rubber man with a big belly.

Bloody Monday Season 2 didn't do too bad I guess, but I would like to see it get up there with Air Gear and Hajime no Ippo with the next few volumes hopefully.
