Silver spoon also won the Taishou award this year, which I don't think happen that often for a new serie. I personaly like it a lot, the comedy is well done and different from the jump series. Arakawa succeeded in a completely new genre that is proof of her talent.
Silver Spoon is much better than most people think. You can't really read the first few chapters and form a solid opinion.

Nothing against Gintama or Sket Dance, both wonderful manga, but please stop comparing everything too the tiny little world that is Weekly Shounen Jump? It is mucking up the conversation for all of us with larger frames of reference and broader taste. Thanks in advance

Personally I don't really like Silver Spoon. I can barely bring myself to read the new chapters.
Here's the current rankings of things:
how mush time between the release of Naruto and the charts ?
Naruto was released 07/28.
30 31 451 31 451 Orange 01
This one is a promising shojo, good to see it sell well already. PH is kind of low but it only had 3 days of sales.
yeah, the story is different than in normal shoujo manga.
glad to see flat doing good.
Barakamon is more a gag manga. It's nothing to compare to Yotsuba though.
If you wants something about calligraphy Tomehane is definitively better.
Oricon Rankigs 30/07 ~ 05/08
if I see it correctly, nisekoi´s 3rd volume is doing in its first week worst than the 2nd volume.
Orange doing ok.
I thought Haikuu would sell more.
