Shchelkunchik chapter 8

The raws for this chapter aren't in MH as far as I know, so here goes some context:

Main character Great ended up locked in a cage with a big, angry giant monster for reasons I won't go into, and his new friend, main character Shchel, who by the way has no powers whatsoever, squeezes his way between the bars of the cage to "help". Shchel's idea is to have Great use his magical music on him to give him super-strength; while Great plays, Shchel distracts the monster. Great, by the way, thinks Shchel is completely nuts, and is all thinking to himself "you nuts, you could get seriously hurt!" And then comes the problem sentence:

けがじゃすまねぇんだぞ - What's this mean? "Wounds don't apologize"? "I won't apologize if you get hurt"?

In a later page, the onlookers also think Shchel's nuts:

なんでだよ！！ なんにも出来ねェおまえが。。。！！
どうしてそこまで。。。
必死になれんだよ！ <-- the headscratching sentence in this spot

My attempt:

Why are you doing that!! You, who can't do anything...!!
Why are you going so far...
So desperately! <-- I'm not so sure about this translation.

Edit: A confusing line from chapter 9, page 9

シェルくん。。。って
小さくて弱そうなのに
チョコチョコして。。。 <-- wtf is chokochoko shite? All I've found refers to toddling or exerting effort.
実は。。。
強いなんて。。。

My attempted translation:

Shchel-kun...
Even though he looks so small and weak
toddling about like that... <-- ...yeah. Halp?
He's actually...
that strong...

けがじゃすまねぇんだぞ <- The すまねぇ here is 済む、 as in (overly literal) "It won't end with just you being wounded." (I.E I'm going to kill you.)

必死に means something like "acting as if one's life depends on it"
In this case you might find that "frantic" works as a better descriptor than "desperate."

ちょこちょこして is closer to "toddle," but I think that is only when paired with walking. It also has the meaning of being restless. Remember that the sentence has already shifted in tone before the phrase so it'll be in contrast to being small and weak.

I'd think that if you were to use toddle, it would have to be in the sense of "clumsily giving effort," and if you were to use being being restless, it would have to be in the sense that of "always being active." In either case, the dictionary form doesn't fit well. You'll have to change it around a bit.

I totally let this sit for like a week, didn't I? I suck. Sorry, I've had Strep and it's been a crappy week.

Unproductive's answers are correct, but he might not have hit what your issue is. As clarification, the 'hisshi ni naren' is 'hisshi ni nareru'; the idea he's getting at is like, "You can't do a damn thing. How can you put so much of yourself into this?"

As for the other, I think the idea is that he's a wuss, basically. He's a little kid, like a toddler learning to walk. Don't read too much into it.
