    Yankee-kun to Megane-chan Manga Gets Live-Action Series
    Quote Quote:
This year's 13th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine has announced on Wednesday that a live-action television adaptation of Miki Yoshikawa's Yankee-kun to Megane-chan manga has been green-lit. Actor Hiroki Narimiya (Gokusen, Akihabara @ DEEP, NANA) will play the title "Yankee-kun" (delinquent) Daichi Shinagawa, while Riisa Naka (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Kami no Shizuku) will play the eyeglasses-wearing, overachieving "Megane-chan" or Hana Adachi. The television series will premiere on April 23.

In Yankee-kun to Megane-chan's story, class representative Hana goes all out to drag Daichi into school activities and their high school's social circles. Daichi learns that Hana was secretly a former delinquent herself, and that is why she tries so hard to reform Daichi as well.

The manga launched in Weekly Shonen Magazine in October of 2006, and the 16th compiled book volume will ship next month. The manga has also been published in Singapore under the English title Flunk Punk Rumble.

Gosick Mystery Novels Have Anime in the Works

    Quote Quote:
The official website of the Japanese publisher Kadokawa Shoten has revealed that an anime adaptation of Kazuki Sakuraba's Gosick mystery novel series is in the works. The novels are set in 1924 in the small Alpine country of Sauville, where Kazuya Kujo studies abroad at the Saint Marguerite Academy. Kazuya joins forces with Victorique, a girl with deductive powers that rival Sherlock Holmes', to solve mysteries.

After a delay in 2008, Tokyopop released the second volume of Gosick in North America this month. Hinata Takeda (La croisée dans un labyrinthe étranger, Yaeka no Karte) illustrates the six main novel volumes of Gosick and the three "Gosicks" short-story collections. Sakuya Amano has been drawing the manga version in Fujimi Shobo's Monthly Dragon Age magazine since 2007.

Wolfgang Petersen Develops Live-Action Paprika Film
    Quote Originally Posted by ANN

Satoshi Kon (Perfect Blue, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent) based his Paprika anime on Yasutaka Tsutsui's surreal 1993 novel of the same name. Petersen told MTV News that a young writer has given him a script treatment, and the writer will develop a full script if he receives a go-ahead. Petersen adds that writing the possible script "will go very fast because the treatment is already very detailed. So I'm very excited about that. I would say it's on the fast track."

Petersen notes that his representatives first introduced him to the story through Kon's anime film: "And I saw it and bingo, I thought this is fantastic. This is a great piece. That will be a very very interesting movie." Although he plans to make the story a little more accessible for a mainstream audience, he compares the story to The Matrix in its scope.

Adult Swim Lists Kekkaishi's U.S. TV Premiere in May

    Quote Quote:
Adult Swim, the late-night television programming block of Cartoon Network in the United States, lists the American television premiere of the Kekkaishi anime during the May 29-30 weekend on its online schedule. Viz Media announced that it had acquired the television anime series at Comic-Con International last July. The Sunrise anime studio adapted Yellow Tanabe's Kekkaishi manga into 52 episodes from 2006 to 2008.

The story follows Yoshimori Sumimura, a 14-year-old junior high school boy who is the 22nd Kekkaishi — barrier master — of the Sumimura clan. As Kekkaishi, Sumimura and his rival Tokine Yukimura protect the land from supernatural beasts.

The original manga has been running in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine since 2003, and Viz will publish the 21st of the 28 current manga volumes in May. Viz has also been streaming the English-subtitled version of the anime on the Hulu website since January.

    I just wet myself.

But kinda strange Adult Swim got this one. Always seemed more like a Saturday night anime before AS comes on, but I guess since CN doesn't do that anymore this is the only place left to go.

I still very excited for this because it means it will be completely unedited! Haven't watched it yet online so I hope the voice actors are good.

Funimation Parent Navarre Reports Q4 Anime Sales Dip
    Quote Quote:
Anime sales "declined as a result of a weaker release schedule"
    ________________________________________
The Navarre Corporation, the Minneapolis-based parent company of anime licensee Funimation, released its financial results for the fourth quarter of its 2010 fiscal year on Thursday.

The publishing segment of Navarre, which includes Funimation, Encore, and BCI, had net sales of US$18.8 million in Q4, a decrease of 15% compared to the same period the year before. Although specific sales information for these individual companies was not made available, Navarre said that net sales of computer software increased by over 50%, while anime sales "declined as a result of a weaker release schedule," as they did in Q3 also.

The statement also referenced the possible sale of Funimation, which Navarre announced on May 27. Navarre will reclassify Funimation as a discontinued operation for Navarre pending the sale, though Funimation will continue to operate as normal.

Navarre reported an overall drop in sales of 6%, but also an increase in operating income (profit minus operating expenses) of 68% and a decrease in debt from US$24.1 million to US$6.6 million, about 73%.
