Shueisha to Launch Super Dash & Go! Light Novel/Manga Mag

The Japanese publisher Shuiesha will launch Super Dash & Go!, a magazine that combines light novels, manga, and other media, on October 25. Shueisha had revealed in August that the editors of its Super Dash Bunko light novel imprint were launching a manga magazine this fall. The magazine will feature light novel-based manga, manga-based light novels, and projects with anime and other media tie-ins.

The launch lineup includes:

• Ben-To another Ripper's night, based on the Ben-To light novels that inspired the ongoing anime. Kaito Shibano, the illustrator of the original novels, is also drawing the manga

• Tatsuma Ejiri's Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai! -Sora-Iro no Hibiki- (Listen to Me, Girls. I Am Your Father! -Sky-Blue Echo-) manga, based on the Papa no Iu Koto o Kikinasai! light novels by Tomohiro Matsu (Mayoi Neko Overrun!). There is also an anime adaptation green-lit.

• Manga adaptations of the light novels Campione! (drawn by Jirō Sakamoto), Nina to Usagi to Mahō no Sensha (Nina, the Rabbit, and the Magical Tank), Owa Rande!, and Rokka no Yūsha

• Two original manga titles: Latin by Enaga Takasato and 1-gatsu no Pluviôse (Pluviôse in January) by Hoshikuzu 7-gō. Shueisha indicates that these titles will be adapted into Super Dash novels.

Psychometrer's Ando Creates Detective Dog Sherdock Manga

The 47th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine began serializing Yuma Ando's new manga Detective Dog Sherdock on Wednesday. Ando (Psychometrer, Shibatora) is writing the story while manga artist Yuuki Satou (Ushiro no Shindere-san, Yōkai no Oisha-san) illustrates the detective manga based on Arthur Conan Doyle's original Sherlock Holmes character.

Ice Blade's Takahashi to Launch Hito Hitori Futari Manga

This year's 42nd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump magazine announced on Thursday that manga creator Tsutomu Takahashi will launch his Hito Hitori Futari series in the next issue on November 2. The story will center around a beautiful girl named Riyon who came from the heavens. The manga will begin with a 52-page chapter with the first page in color.

Tokyopop published Takahashi's Jiraishin manga, under the name Ice Blade, as one of the company's first titles in North America. Takahashi has been serializing a sequel called Jiraishin diablo since the inaugural issue of Kodansha's good! Afternoon magazine in 2008

GTO's Tohru Fujisawa to Launch Soul Reviver Manga Series

The premiere issue of Shogakukan's new Monthly Hero's magazine revealed on Tuesday that the magazine's January issue will premiere a new manga from Tohru Fujisawa (GTO, GTO: Shonan 14 Days) titled Soul Reviver. Fujisawa is handling the manga's scenario and original character design, and Manabu Akishige (D-ASH) is illustrating the manga. Soul Reviver revolves around a woman who is half human, half Shinigami and whose job is to accompany the souls of the dead to the world of the Shinigami.

I don't think he copied artwork; it is most likely a plot.

He definitely did not copy the plot. No Titans in Muv Luv, as far as I know. In Muv Luv Unlimited the world is nearly destroyed by invading Aliens, until whats left of humanity is forced to fight back. Not that this is such an original plot, there are plenty of comics, movies, books, and TV shows where humanity is nearly wiped out by invaders but heroically fight back. And it's not like Shingeki otherwise has that much else in common with MuvLuv. MuvLuv is not particularly violent, not particularly serious, and not particularly deep. Unless the actual art work, themes, meaning, plot, and premise are ignored MuvLuv and Shingeki do not have very much in common. With the lone exception of an invasion putting humanity in dire peril trope that has been used in science fiction/fantasy since the 19th century.

If anyone is wondering MuLuv was not originally a manga. It's a series of adult visual novels that were later adapted into manga. The part in question, MuvLuv Unlimited, was the second part of the original game. The first part of the game was a romance (as with most visual novels) called MuvLuv Extra. MuvLuv Unlimited put the characters from the first part in a sci-fi setting. It was still a moe-fest. Don't go looking for connections to Shingeki. It might have inspired the setting for Shingeki, a world where humanity was on the brink of extinction, past that they have nothing in common. It would be a bit far fetched to believe this would have any impact on Shinegki's popularity.

The problem is Isayama (the author of Shingeki), himself, wrote it as he copied. I don't know why he wrote that.

Niwango, the parent company of the Nico Nico Douga video service, is launching the free digital magazine Kadokawa Nico Nico Ace with Kadokawa Shoten. The magazine will update every Tuesday with chapters of Sora no Otoshimono, Daisuki Desu!! Mahō Tenshi Kosumasu, Tiger & Bunny, Deadman Wonderland, Sgt. Frog (Keroro Gunsō), Tokyo ESP, Nanamaru Sanbatsu, and Anikoi.

The magazine is part of the larger Tuesday launch of digital books on Nico Nico Seiga, the online still-frame counterpart to Nico Nico Douga. Like the video service, Nico Nico Seiga allows visitors to post comments on top of manga and novels for others to see.

Nico Nico Seiga is also running titles from Kadokawa Shoten's 4-Koma Nano Ace magazine (Nichijō/My Ordinary Life) and Fujimi Shobo's Age Premium magazine (Maken-Ki!) for free. The first volume of the award-wining manga Thermae Romae is also available for a limited time until November 22.

Issue 5 of Jump Kai has sold all of copies, so it was decided to be reprinted. It looks like Shaman King's popularity is still strong.

One Piece Sells Record 38 Million Manga Volumes in 2011

The marketing survey firm Oricon reported on Thursday that Eiichiro Oda's One Piece pirate manga set a record for the most volumes of manga sold in one year since Oricon began posting its ranking charts in 2008. During the period of November 22, 2010 to November 20, 2011, One Piece sold 37,996,373 copies.

One Piece also took the top four spots for single manga volumes sold during the same time period. Volume 61 sold 3,382,588 copies, volume 62 sold 3,207,568 copies, volume 63 sold 3,073,175 copies, and volume 64 sold 2,652,700 copies. It is the third year in a row that One Piece volumes have taken the top four spots in that category. These four One Piece volumes were also the only manga volumes this year to sell more than 2 million copies.

In 2008, One Piece sold 5,956,540 copies, and in 2009, it sold 14,721,241 copies. Last year, it sold 32,343,809 copies.

2011's second best-selling manga series was Naruto with 6,874,840 copies, followed by Blue Exorcist's 5,223,712 copies.
