That's interesting. I wonder if it'll still be under Kodansha, or WSM in particular, since he already ended his exclusive contract with them right before Negima! ended. What with the fan speculation of having a friction with the said publication.

I would like to see him work on a more different genre though, or shift demographics. Either ways, this is worth looking forward to.

Fullmetal Alchemist's Arakawa to Adapt Tanaka's Arslan Fantasy (click link for picture)

The June issue of Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine is announcing on Thursday that manga artist Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist, Silver Spoon, Hero Tales) is drawing an adaptation of The Heroic Legend of Arslan (Arslan Senki), the acclaimed fantasy novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka (Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Sohryuden - Legend of the Dragon Kings, Tytania). The manga series will launch in the magazine's August issue on July 9.

The ongoing novel series, billed by Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine as the "world's greatest historical fantasy," already inspired two anime films and a four-part original video anime from 1991 to 1993.

That's interesting. I've never thought of her as a great artist, so I wonder what's behind this. Maybe she's supposed to give it her own touch (humor-wise and all) or she is a fan of the series. Interesting.

I don´t know how i feel about this. Arslan is already a great story in itself, so i can not gauge how Arakawa´s great story telling ability would be required. Furthermore, her art is not really something special.

Since it will be published in Bessatsu, it will be a monthly series.

Sounds fun! Never read the novels, but I'd probably be more excited if I had. Never understood why people get so edgy about adaptions...if it's not a good adaption ignore it. Literally nothing to lose.
