NisiOisin's Next Monogatari Novel Slated For May 22

    Quote Quote:
Koyomimonogatari, novelist NisiOisin's latest addition to his popular Monogatari series, will be published by the Kodansha BOX imprint on May 22. The book will once again be illustrated by VOFAN, and sell for 1,600 yen (about US$16). Koyomimonogatari will contain 12 short stories that will chronicle twelves months in the life of Koyomi Araragi. It starts with the new semester after Koyomi's encounter with a beautiful vampire during spring break, and ends with university exams.

Also announced is a series of 12 Koyomimonogatari color postcards by VOFAN. The postcard set will become available in June.

NisiOisin's remaining Monogatari novels include this summer's Owarimonogatari followed by the Zokuowarimonogatari novel. Zokuowarimonogatari was previously slated for next year, although NisiOisin has not said if this is still the case.

I can never get excited for any live-action adaption of an anime or manga. To me, they just look like bad cosplay attempts.

    Same.
Especially because manga are over the top and stylized most of the times (for good reasons). It doesn't translate too well into real life.

Depends on the genre and the style of the source material. Like Googlez already said, over the top styles or fantasy/sci-fi series that would need a high budget, don´t work as live-action for me, best examples are Death Note and Gantz. On the other hand, there are some really well made live-action adaptions like GTO, Jin, Iryuu, Holyland, Densha Otoko and a few more, which don´t require a high budget or weird styles to work.

Yeah, but DN and Gantz are fantasy, and GTO, Jin, Iryuu, Holylan, and Densha Otoko are set in the real-life (well, Jin did have a time travel, but it doesn't have supernatural stuffs, like death gods or monsters). So, it looks like a fantasy manga isn't really good for a live-adaptation movie.

Also, how do you feel about upcoming Shingeki no Kyojin live-adaptation movie.

Which is what i essentially said, fantasy/sci-fi mangas and animes are just not realizable, especially in Japan. I mean the two Gantz movies and the TV special had a budget of $45mil, which is the highest budget for a movie made in Japan as far as i know, but it still looked bad in my opinion. Even in Hollywood, it would not be easy to gather a high enough budget to make it look good, you would have to be James Cameron for that to work(hopefully, we will see in 2017 ).

Regarding SnK, i think it´s gonna be another "Gantz", meaning probably a relatively high budget for Japan (especially with the hype around SnK right now) but still not nearly enough to adapit it satisfactorily.
At least it probably won´t look like this:
