Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers

It's worth pointing out for people who didn't click to read the full story that this is the Diamond Top 500. In other words, this only tracks sales made to comic book shops in the US, not Borders, Barnes and Noble or other places where it's more common for people to buy manga. So it's worth keeping that in mind.

Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers

I'm too lazy to type out the rank compared to I'm_Akiyama. I shall post the link for week April 4-10 for it.

I will never understand why Rosario+Panty is so popular with American fans. I know Americans have a weird love for any series with the word 'vampire' in the title...

Kuroshitsuji is doing incredibly well with American fans, 11th week, I know it's very popular in Japan. Didn't expect something like this to be popular in America. I'm the target audience for this, but I don't see any special about this series. I didn't like Vampire Knight either, so yeah...

Shinshi Doumei Cross is doing better then I thought. I guess the detailed artwork is still attractive to the younger fans (I use to love Arina Tanemura, I'm quite 'meh' on her nowadays)

I can't wait to see Hetalia's rank in America, since it's a very popular series with fujoshi/girls in Japan. A Hetalia cosplay (Belarus) was sneaked into a NBC (I think it was) news report on budget cuts for education...

I wanted a totally girly sigature...

No your not, Kuroshitsuji is a shonen manga.

Kuroshitsuji is a shonen manga for girls though. G-Fantasy's target audience is mostly girls that like action but with some nice art to look at. Earl Phantomive's outfits are cute images for girls to be memorized. Guys can read it too but girls are buying the tanks.

Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers

^^Then why not just make a shojo magazine featuring action and nice art?, those things are not by any means exclusive to shonen or seinen (they are only a demographics).

"Shonen manga for girls" doesn't make any sense, the whole point of the term shonen is that its made for boys.

Also, girls are the only mostly buying the D-Grayman tanks too, but D-Grayman is still a shonen manga (it means nothing).

Look at D.Gray-Man and Reborn!. Those series are Shonen Jump series, but their fanbase is primarily made of girls. Just because the main audience is female doesn't mean that it's exclusively marketed towards them. I'd personally say that GFantasy series are gender neutral.

Re: New York Times Manga Best Sellers

Gender neutral is a perfect way to describe G Fantasy. You have the art and characters which is appealing to more to females while you have the action scenes which are directed to the males. Shonen and Shojo aren't always the best way to classify a series but it still has to be placed in a demographic.

because if you forget the "ghastly" and almost unwatchable anime, Rosario + Vampire" it is actually a really good story.

I have loved it since I first came across it and for the record I usually detest anything with the word "Vampire" in it.
