yeah maybe Katanagatari in terms of "cool factor" - but that would include Samurai Champloo- though less action and more thinking, I guess?
But hey, I thought Ninja Scroll was also kind of cool, and bloody, and a very bold experience since I watched it when I was 12... Anybody else remember that anime/movie?
Certain plots can catch my attention as long as everything is explained well enough

I've seen Cowboy Bebop but haven't watched it religiously. But I'll most definitely check it out
Neon Genisis Evangelion and Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica. Really Madoka will surprise you but it certainly has an epic factor to it that TTGL had. Evangelion is a classic, mecha, though prepare for the anime to get psychological as well as religious imagery everywhere. 90s anime, pretty well intact. Madoka is a really new, but it is right up there with NGE. Check them out.^^
As Jammin mentioned, the original Eureka Seven series was great [not the movie]. FLCL is funny, short and has some crazy fights. Also Dead Leaves[movie], for some other experience, if youi like the mix of "Adventure, Comedy, Sci-Fi, Shounen, Psychological". Or the newer Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt if you can get over the ecchi and weird style. Or of cource the older Mahoromatic series.

HEY! I was watching NGE Rebuild 2.2
And I was surprised that I had heard a familiar music theme running in the background that I was sure I did not hear in the series.
And I knew that piece because I had it in my playlist from a different anime!
I did some checks and Evangelion really did use a soundtrack from Kare Kano
and apparently I wasn't the only one who noticed it upon further "research" and that the composer was the same, and it was also by Gainax. STILL!!! Why would they do this??
He even won Tokyo Anime Award in 2010 for his music in Evangelion
yeah but to reuse music? from a shoujo anime none-the-less that is so endearing and so different from Eva? :/
EVA ED SHOULD use Fly Me to the moon, for tribute purposes.
I just thought using themes from Kare Kano was a bit off.
I think same music has always been reused in different films, depends on the content though. If a piece is good it will fit with anything, though mostly there are masterpieces that fit for a tragic and comic scene. They just fit for totally different stuff that it does not matter.
Speaking of Evangelion reusing songs, I really like how they included this track in 2.0.
It's from a Japanese film made in the 70's called The Man Who Stole The Sun, and I love how well it went with the scene it accompanied in the Evangelion.
Apparently every local store that sells BD have the [new] Steins;Gate part II collection (episodes 13 - 25), but not part I (1 - 12). So rather than wait for Amazon to ship part I, I bought the Serial Experiments BD box set. I have not seen Lain in so long, ten years or more, that I forgot to put it on My Anime List:
Overall an impressive set. The HD upgrade is gorgeous, worth the cost ($69.99) alone. The Art Book was a bit of a let down, over 100 pages, but concept art only. No color prints. For some reason it is only available as a DVD/BD combo, including all 13 episodes in both formats. I don't really need the DVD version, but w/e.
