I can´t completely share the sentiment, though it was a good movie. Leaving out a scientific explanation was actually pretty smart since giving one would have backfired, you can´t really explain the phenomenon in the movie. There were some generic stuff, like the main characters, which were pretty interchangeable, or the overzealous religious fanatics or the message that people, even with a different or even reverse world view (in this case literally) can understand each other but since the latter was delivered in a touching way, mostly due to the simple yet powerful symbolic, i give this a 7/10. I like Yoshiura´s previous stuff more though, especially Pale Cocoon and Eve no Jikan.

Re: What are You Watching and What is Next on Your List?

I'm watching three anime that are airing this season, Mahouka, Sidonia no Kishi, and Baby Steps, and the next thing on my list is the Mouretsu movie, whenever I can find a version of it online somewhere.

I keep meaning to watch the Bakuman anime, but the pacing was so awful at times that I could never make it through, even though I loved the manga.

Any thoughts on some fun, perhaps slice of life or sci-fi series to check out?

No idea what you watched before, so....

Uchuu Kyoudai is a must-watch imo. It has pretty much been flying under the radar but has delivered top quality stuff week after week. Nodame Cantabile is one of my all time favorites, same with Kino no Tabi. Eve no Jikan more or less combines slice of life and sci-fi, so that might be something. Otherwise only Haibane Renmei and Natsume come to mind.

I've watched a lot of stuff, it has to be said.

I checked out Uchuu Kyoudai, but it wasn't really my cup of tea, although it was well done for what it was. I can't say that I've watched any of the other five series, though, so I'll check them out. Thanks for the recommendations.

I haven't updated my MAL in so long, so I can't just link you that.

Re: What are You Watching and What is Next on Your List?

Recently I've been watching mostly comedic stuff. Worth mentioning are Shinryaku! Ika Musume (a story about a squid-girl that is trying to conquer humanity for polluting the oceans), Seitokai Yakuindomo (a story about a school that recently went co-ed and added a male student to theior student council, who has to put up with the pervertedness and fetishes of the president, secretary and various other people that are all pretty sick-minded), Mitsudomoe (a bunch of six-graders that create ridiculous situations, mainly due to misunderstandings) and Hanamaru Kindergarten (story about a girl that is in love with her kindergarten teacher. Very entertaining and cute to no end).

Next on my list will probably be something similiar to the aforementioned, but I haven't decided yet.

Oh, and if you don't mind shorter episodes, Tonari no Seki-kun might be to your liking. 'Tis about a boy who spends classes playing with all kinds of things - in very creative and exaggregatingly elaborate ways. As a slight spoiler, him playing domino with erasers dwarfes the domino world records.

Re: What are You Watching and What is Next on Your List?

I am nearly halfway through with Monster so far, and it is brutal, and very engaging . There are also alot of characters, and they're are not just some background characters who have a few lines and then gets shoved to side with no impact. They have feelings, goals, and darker aspects to them which make them incredibly interesting characters.

Also, just for fun, have a drinking game where whenever you spot name that coincides with a name from Attack on Titan, take shot.
They're both set in Germany, but whatever. Also if I had to choose between the 2 universes, I would choose AoT. There are no Johans there...yet.

Next on my list are Mekakucity Actors and No Game No Life.

I've heard good things about both.

I'm watching Blue Dragon, which has been on my list for awhile now. It's a nice kiddy anime.

Re: What are You Watching and What is Next on Your List?

I finished So Ra No Wo To, an engaging, likable, well animated mix of healing anime and military otaku. A nice "buried treasure" anime. I loved the characters, all of whom had strong, distinct personalities, and meshed well together. The story had a lot of emotional depth, building to a surprisingly tense climax. The specials are an essential part of the series, two complete episodes. Anyone interested in watching needs to watch them along with the main series. Elysium Subs includes the specials (as episode 7.5 and 13) as part of their blu-ray batch.

I am now rewatching the original, 1979 Gundam, which I have not watched in at least ten years. I want a refresh before finishing Gundam UC, which I also plan on rewatching from the beginning before I watch episode 7.

Re: What are You Watching and What is Next on Your List?

I'm currently going through the past Gundam series (Zeta, ZZ) that I missed following the original. I didn't really feel like rewatching the whole first series, but now that Unicorn is finished, I'm definitely going to check that out. I've been waiting on that one for a few years now.

And because I've been on a mecha kick as of late, I'm currently watching Rahxephon because I seemed to miss that one as well, and <3 Maaya Sakamoto.

Re: What are You Watching and What is Next on Your List?

For the Summer 2014 season, I'll be watching:
    • Bakumatsu Rock
    • Tokyo Ghoul
    • Barakamon
    • Sailor Moon Crystal
    • Aldnoah Zero
    • Space Dandy S2
    • Aoharaido
    • Zankyou no Terror
    • Tokyo ESP

And maybe Persona 4 -The Golden-. Like with every season, there will be one or two that I'll drop as I go along; however, the pilot episodes of the ones I've watched so far all seem quite promising.

Not to forget the mobile rythm game, which was very popular for some time, at NeoGAF at least. Crazy how they let one download all the songs to play for free, if unlocked. Feels like a mix of a monster lvling game X rythm based typing.
