Yeah, that is what I meant. Two opposite genres.

It depends on how the beginning plots are described. If there are a lot of information that go into the direction of one genre it is hard to put it in another genre.

If this will make Kibate happy, I'm going to do a mecha for this contest.

It'll be a test for my next series that I'll start in about... two? three years?!

    Re: A bakuman reader's contest

Even I am interested in participate, the fact that only a cover and short summary is necessary is enough reason for me to try it out (I don't really have time to do a proper story in less than MONTHS).

However, I share some of you guys concerns that it might give our cherished manga ideas away too easily. But depending of how you write your summary, it might be actually an inviting, intriguing piece of text that actually makes the reader curious and excited without giving too much away (the best movie synopses are just like that).

Also, a nice way of showing your summary is to merge it with the art on the back cover (something like in dvd cases - some comics do it like that and it looks gorgeous if done right).

Also, since this is a contest concerning manga, we should advertise it all around MH so more people can participate and give their opinions on this thread. I'm sure there are lots of people out there who would like to participate even though they don't read Bakuman.
Have you ever tried to install Windows on your computer using a USB stick? ...It's painful.

    That would be awesome!!!
I prefer the first one,but the second idea is good too.
    I approve!

I'd just like to point out to all manga artists around here that we have an Amateur Manga subsection where you can try to find artists, writers or just showcase your work and ask for critique.

Also, the seasonal Art Contests have a Manga/Comic contest since its 1st edition - sadly, the last one had to be closed because we had only one contestant, and the Winter one looks like it's going to have the same end...:/ So, please take a look on both of the links I've provided if you're interested in drawing manga! ^^

that's quite different than this contest. This contest first of all only accept original stuff, no fanfictions/art/doujins. and second not a full story is needed, only maybe basic character designs and basic plot summary or something(this is what we are trying to decide right now, what the contest will be about)
but your contest looks neat too, but too bad the discussion thread is closed because there are several questions and critic about the contest i would love to ask/say^^"

Sounds like a pile of fun... I'm totally interested.

Why not making a contest between two teams?
Set them up, have people sign up as writers/artists/filler-ins... and some sort of flexible deadline.

Having some sort of collaboration would drastically increase the quality and quantity of the submissions, not to mention offer an opportunity for people who aren't equipped to participate by themselves to give it a whirl.

And having some form of competition would also make it much more exciting and probably create enough pressure that things will actually get done.

    Re: A bakuman reader's contest

Sounds interesting for me,too bad I'm not that good at making summaries xD
I'm trying to do a rather story but it's being build rather weirdly, like having 2 parts like Tsubasa and XXXHolic.Crossovers between the protagonists(part a: perspective of main male protagonist;part b: perspective of main female protagonist) I mean,@w@...

And certainly getting opinions and critiques for others might be good too xD

It's not "my contest" just because i opened the thread, hehe. xD But yeah, sorry, the thread was closed by mistake! Feel free to ask stuff around there (or to use the general contests thread for that too).

And well, I was not trying to imply it is the same contest; was just inviting you guys to take part on it, since it's been kinda ignored for quite some time now. And there's no place better than the Bakuman section to promote it, I think we have many artist wannabes here ^^

    Sounds like a good idea...

So what do you think if we would separate the participants into two groups. A group Eiji and a group Muto... If there are more participants we could eventually go for two member groups and thus create more than two groups.

Anyone an opinion on the roles? I would go for two main roles where we would divide you in
    eg: Group Muto:
    - an artist team (single man/woman? multiple members?)
    - a story writer team (same as above?)

But first of all I'd like to know who wants to participate on this. So you can pm me with your participation and your application (role in a team)

    Re: A bakuman reader's contest

how bout we make comic of mangas and ideas that already exist in bakuman. for ex: trap,KTM,tanto, otters, etc. so that we'll have a fix topic.

that might be neat too, though it could only work if we were to draw an actual manga/oneshot. But that would take too much time for most people.

I'm still on for the idea of drawing character sketches of a summary and/or writing summarys of a character sketch.

    Re: A bakuman reader's contest

    How about this:

    -People register as artists
    -People register as writers
-Writers post names, and then artists get to choose who they want to team up with.
-After all artists and writers are paired up, we make a "tournament" with a link so people can read the manga online, and various threads(polls) involving say 4 of the fan mangas each, and the top 2 voted advance to the next stage of the contest/tournament, and we repeat until we have a winner, not entirely unlike Gamefaqs' character battle.
-All mangas must be oneshots of X number of pages.

    Or something along those lines.
