I like yotsuya too. Like it is said, it's improving each chapter. The current arc is really interesting and chapter 14 ended with a true cliffhanger. I look forward to the horror story yostuya is going to tell. Let's see how crazy his opponent will become
I found a first week tank sales for volume 1 of Yotsuya; 12,384.
Is it normal tank sale for volume 1, or not?
For those who don't already know, the manga will be ending with chapter 18.
I will be looking forward to the ending and the cover for volume 2. Such a unique series and lovely art, it will be missed. Anything else the author writes and draws in the future I'm going to be highly interested. Bye bye Yotsuya
I sometimes wonder why some series survive and other get cancelled...it seems kinda random....but well this series would have been better fittet in a seinen magazine...it was simply to scary and complex for SJ. you cant pull of a second Neuro so fast
And unfortunately, as good as Yotsuya was, it just wasn't popular enough with the readers of Jump.
well I knew that but I cant really comprehend the taste of the Jump readers sometimes, plus latest arc of Bakuman shows us that there r mor factors than the popularity cards considered when it comes to serialization, basic plot structure, possible merchandise and convertabillity into a possible anime, and in all these points it had problems.....still it was awesome and we'll have to wait a long time before we get something unusual like that again...
Most readers already have a series (or more) they love and support. So when they send those cards they obviously pick their favourite series, for example OP,and put it on the first spot. Now they probably have others they like like Naruto or Bleach. So that would already fill those spots and there is no place for Yotsuya for example. Some people don't even bother reading the other series from the magazine,so it's hard for new series, but if it has impressive first chapters that attract the readers so much,it will get popular, because the readers want to keep reading it and would even "neglect" their favourite series to support the new one. That's kinda how it works. It' pretty simple.
So in short it is:
series that can keep up with the top tier of the mag = successful
series that cant keep up with the top tier = cancelled(in most cases)
The advertisements and the prizes they give out to encourage readers to send the postcards seem to indicate that the JUMP demographic is relatively young. ("Shueisha's aiming their main target as elementary and junior high school students" as quoted from the WSJ TOC thread.)
The reason why we may have enjoyed Yotsuya and not the Japanese readers was probably because we're well above the age range. Yotsuya does seem pretty dark and a little too intelligent for the young ones who are all about fighting and explosions
I picked this series up a few weeks ago and it's really sad to see it go. I think in a different time and place, it might have done well.
Yotsuya was pretty much doomed from the first chapter, when readers were upset by the graphic nature and made their discomfort known. I wonder how the series would have done if they hadn't forced Haruichi to tone it down on the underage girls getting their limbs chopped off for the gratification of a creepy dude.
I'm sure we'll see more from this author in the near future. I just hope it stays in the somewhat scary realm because the art really works well that way.
Volume 2 contains chapter 8 to 14 and vol 3 will be out in September. 18 chapters total for the entire series.
Hah, Yotsuya's face there is pretty ridiculous. Gotta love it
But given the length, perhaps there will be ample opportunity to do HQ release once the tank turn up.
In volume 2, after chapter 14 does it have extra chapter ;from page 147 ?
Link for trial is available at Jump site that include content page (&ch. 8). Can someone clarify ?
Also, is there any possibility that author may add more material in vol.3 as only 4 chapters left for it ?
Just read final chapter thanks to BakanHaven scans. It rounds up whole thing, says where about of different characters at the end of story. But the chapter started slow/uninteresting. Hope to see Furudate Sensei's next work, if he does. This is the 1st series (& only) I followed from beginning of serialization to the end. This chapter had the creepiest face of Yotsuya sempai (P-12_13)
btw, vol.3 is available for sell. It includes chapter 15-18 and other stuff. Other stuffs/chapters(?) starts from page 89. So around 110 pages. Don't know what they say. If someone can read please check the trial version and let us know if anything interesting.
