And on to the chapter.... I really hate that it was tanto what got them serialized, let's see how this turns on, but unless they change it to something more shonen-like and less childish I can't see it becoming #1 and getting an anime, but, well, I guess Ohnba knows what he's doing lol.

Miyoshi's comment about being so nervous her boobs hurt was clearly the "lesson" of the chapter.

It looked like Tanto was actually improving quite a bit after they got chewed out by the Chief. The designs we saw on the color pages were pretty cool looking, and they seem more open to actually talking to Miura about problems they have with him or his suggestions. His advice to bring in the evil characters earlier on was definitely a wise one; a comedy series would be interesting, but if we saw more than three chapters with the same formula (Tanto uses a new invention his Grandfather made and it backfires in a comical way) people would get bored and might stop reading.

Aoki got first place with a romance series? That shows how far she has come with her manga. This was her first time getting first anything as a Shounen writer I believe. It was good to see that she and Kato get along; even if there is tension between them it is not being brought into their workplace.

So Crow is still a super hit series, Otters is in talks for an anime so it must be doing well, Kiyoshi is gaining popularity again, and Autumn Leaves is off to a good start. Tanto and Natural+ have their work cut out for them.

Natural+ is sounding more and more interesting by the second. You take a naturally gifted writer like Iwase and pair her with a person who lives for manga like Eiji and you are going to get something amazing.

Did anybody else love how the one editor was able to figure out that it was Eiji who was the artist? Gotta love the little guy for just changing the characters in his name around.

I bet Shizuka and Hiramaru could get along well. Sleazy editor is actually starting to shape up with his efforts to help Shizuka back on track. He doesn't seem to be doing as much for Aoki right now but she doesn't strike me as the type who would need that much assistance to write her stuff. He did a good job of assembling her female assistant entourage.

The cover and colors for this chapter were beautiful. Can't believe Tanto got serialized...or can I? Somehow I think we all saw this coming. Either way Iwase and Eiji's manga is much cooler sounding.

It would be great if Tanto does well because I like them serialized better instead of the other way around. Though if it does bad Takagi's marriage plans might go out the door, but for some reason I keep feeling like that won't happen anyway.

Well, I doubt tanto will last long enough to be more than just the plot device to bring a change of direction. The past few chapters, to me at least, are setting up some kind of play by the rules or bust atmosphere with bb kenichi being crucified by the big chief... When tanto's not doing so hot and the team once again tries to go against miura, there'll finally be precedent in their favor.

Then Nizuma Eiji appears and starts defying conventions again. I don't know if I'd still read bakuman if it weren't for Eji.
Him and Aiko may very well become the motivation takagi and mashiro need to finally stand up and say fuck all this, we're not drawing because takagi's under pressure of marriage, nor because we're trying to please whoever fills miura's cross section of the bell curve, we're drawing manga because it's our passion to create an everlasting hit.
As of late, it looks like they've both forgotten why they even bother...

I really liked the Jump cover this week, it really showed the rivalry between Ashirogi and Eiji. The character designs for Metaru Black and Pink looks really good. I don't think its Tanto that's the problem with Ashirogi right now, it is their lack of focus. Blame the editor all you want but what the Chief said is correct. If they really pushed themselves to do it they could make Tanto a great manga. First off, the character designs are really good, and the characters seem good. The problem is that Miura is not telling them what he really thinks. He isn't "for sure" that their manga will get serialized, and yet he tells them that he is. He needs to be more honest. Ashirogi also have to push themselves. They themselves don't believe that the direction the manga is going is good, and yet they don't push themselves to come out with a superior version, at least until they learn about Iwase's manga. They need to come up with something really good and THEN show it to Miura, instead of just coming out with some mass-produced style manga. Tanto itself has a lot of promise though and I hope to see it do well.

About Shujin's relationship problems: I think that he is currently with the wrong girl. Miyoshi is kinda like Tanto right now, the easy girl. She's attractive, but I don't think Shujin really loves her, at least to the point of getting married. It would be better if he ended up with Iwase, someone who can push him into becoming a better person and a better man. Miyoshi is just kinda there, a high school sweetheart that just wants to get married. Sometimes you just gotta let some relationships go to go out with a person that truly lights your heart on fire. I really don't think Miyoshi and Shujin have that spark in their relationship. Shujin is with her because she's easy to be around, and Miyoshi is with him because he is her first serious crush. Unfortunately that's all there is to the relationship, there is no passion. Shujin is being bound to this marriage thing for the wrong reasons and Miyoshi simply does not have enough experience to call this true love. There are a lot of people out there that just settle for second best but I think that these two deserve to be with people that can truly light their hearts on fire.

Going back to the character designs of the people in Tanto is making me laugh. You see Tanto's Grandpa, who is trying to strike a cool pose after his clothes were blown off after apparently making some new accidental invention. It would actually be an amusing thing if the pattern on his boxers got more bizarre every time you saw them. Starts off with stripes, changes to hearts the next time, becomes Tanto after that, etc.

Then there is Metal Black, the evil scientist who is so horribly over-the-top with the cliche evil design. I love that he is trying to start off small before trying to take over the world. Anybody else love the idea of him trying to go to the grocery store or some other public setting that people have to visit, only to have everybody instantly aware of his evil intentions because of his looks?

Pink is supposed to be in the same class as Tanto but clearly has the build of a slightly older lady. In the chest region. Female character development lifted straight from the pages of Bleach. The heart design on her shirt actually becomes a joke by having her cleavage turn it into a broken heart. It's a subtle way of letting us know she is really evil and giving the horny kids a peek.

Eji is a pimp. He brings child-like candor to a group of kids trying too hard to be adults and some much needed optimism when everyone else is becoming stagnant and uncreative from trying to please. He's the kind of guy who gets his rival assistants to admit reading to love-ru and not much later gets them to help him on his own work.

If he had a fanclub, I'd get bowl cut to apply.

I don't know why everyone is upset, but we should be glad that they are back to business... even if you don't like what they are doing and think it's stupid. If it'll work for them and gains success, it won't be stupid like how you exaggerate it.

Shijuka's first appearance... in colors! Wow... he looks like Shujin's evil twin.

All the secrets are out... Ashirogi founds out that Iwase wrote a manga, and her editor is Hattori... Iwase finds out about the marriage plan... The editors were not fooled by Niizuma's pen name... and finally, the beginning of the Artist/Author rivalry.

I think the next popularity war will be crazy between the two sides.
