I've been thinking about this and I have had a thought. I wonder if some of the people from Viz have seen how popular the fan-translated chapters have been outside Japan and decided that it could be a winner.
A sensible approach.
Nope! Binktopia wouldn't be used for VIZ because of three reasons.
1) They translated Psyren without permission.
2) They currently continue to translate other licensed mangas (most that are licensed under VIZ)
3) If VIZ decides to use Binktopia's translations or scans, it would just encourage other manga scanlators to the logic that what they have been doing isn't illegal and that they are safe.
There are probably other reasons, but let these be the ones I thought out at the given time.
But seriously, no matter how much input Binktopia's been giving to mangafans (which helped the popularity of Psyren), they are still doing illegal activity.
Binktopia could get themselves raped, bullied, sued, and even murdered (although that is very unlikely)...xDDD
But seriously, VIZ is too high & head strong to be focused on the achievements of a scanlation team. Binktopia & VIZ are on two different plain levels. You can't combine the two. Even if VIZ would like to use Binktopia's work, they would not do so...due to policy issues.
I know that Binktopia translations wouldn't be used. Where did you ever get that idea I thought that?
I was just saying that perhaps some of the people of Viz saw the popularity that Psyren was getting outside Japan and snapped the license up.
But still, Psyren wouldn't be where its at without the activity of scanlation groups. Which means that without the movements of "certain illegal activities", Psyren wouldn't have been able to reach such potential of sales or would have been known to such extent.
Hopefully VIZ takes note of this fact and announces their credits to scanlation groups..xD - Hopefully Viz will give credit to Binktopia for their hard work of making a certain manga known to such a level.
One question, has any scanlation group ever been taken notice by a Publishing Company? (other than stopping scanlation groups from scanlating certain manga)
I think the fact that it's very "shounenish" a la Naruto/Bleach [I can't believe I'm saying it, but in a way, it's similar], the publisher thinks this might be another hit series with the English audience.
And the fact that there are a lot of scanlations and fans online.
Please buy the volume (preferably within the first week or month) once it comes out, or this can be a very short lived celebration.
This is great news for Psyren fans. I wonder how the process works... does the licensing company also have to get permission from the author or does the publisher take care of that?
so whats the big hype about viz licensing psyren? explain
It's being officially translated into english and being sold outside Japan.
Psyren being licensed shows how much a free scanlations can boost the popularity of sales. Now, this is also a huge step for Psyren because it's that closer in becoming an anime. (Since VIZ deals with animation licensing)
So this gives us hopes on the what we've all been waiting for - which is = A Psyren anime!
