This is just a result of them not wanting to alter the story but needing to market this at a younger audience. If they chose to market it at older teens, like in their Shonen Jump Advance line, then the word suicide would still be around, but they even removed all curse words from the magazine a few years back (probably from parent backlash) because they had very young readers buying the magazine, so they probably just fill that word is bit much? Its all kinda ridiculous to me but that's just how its turned out.

filtering out bad words is dumb in the first place. Let's face it, what kind of kid never heard words like "fuck" "shit" "asshole" and so on? Instead of acting like those words don't exist, they should show them in what situations its ok to use and not. But no~
    anyway

The magazine is rated T for teens. It's on the front cover. If they got problems with young kids reading a teen's comic magazine, then it's either the bookstore's owner for letting them buy it, or the parents who thinks comics = for kids.

But I fail to see "suicide" classified as a "strong language". In all my life, I always considered "strong language" to be swear words like "shit" and "fuck", but "suicide"?! Again. I don't know what's wrong with mentioning "suicide" if "DEATH" is mentioned on THE VERY SAME PAGE!!

They never let "shit", "fuck", or "asshole" in in the first place. "Damn", "ass", and "hell" was it, and they are still occasionally left in...

Totally agree with everything you said. I was extremely annoyed when they first removed them for the same reason: Its rated T for teen. But unfortunately, that's just how the publishing industry works around here. They want kids to read, but if they leave the curse words in I guess they would lose a lot of younger readers, I dunno. they keep tobacco use and violence in though.

And about suicide, I guess they just feel its a little too touchy for their younger readers. Who knows.

Re: Viz's Shonen Jump Adds Bakuman, Toriko Manga

We know that Viz changed the color of pure black to blue fading into black. I was thinking they were going to change this color every time but vol. 2 is the same style. But good news, the spine will remain black.

I actually like the blue fading to black Viz is doing better than the original. Just looks less plain than pure black to me.

If you look closely at the logo, you can see it's like a drawing in progress with each letter.

I like this "new" logo. The drawing style thing was really a good change.
I think I'll buy this version instead of waiting for a brazilian one.

Re: Bakuman in the American SJ

    New issue is out.

'll try and see if I can find it tomorrow, and then till August.

    ... And I've got it!

Okay, let's see... since this is a shorter chapter than the previous two, not a whole lot to talk about.

While Japanese text was edited to English in the first chapter, the spines of the Jump issues and the manga were left intact and did not edit them to English. The same goes to the action figures boxes.

References to non-Jump titles like "Tomorrow's Joe" were left intact.

    One minor dialogue change:
Scn: -"Yeah, I don't wanna do that stuff, either. Sex, rape, pregnancy, abortion, non of that crap.

Viz: -"Yeah, I don't want to do that either. Relationships, Lovey-Dovey stuff... I hate those things."
