Some of the things he says really do make you wonder whether he's mentally handicapped, but his conversations with the Hachibi pretty much prove that he's not. I too think that his & Motoi's story is touching. The part where Bee offers up roses at Motoi's father's grave was simple, but heartfelt - and Motoi's snub was elegantly shown with nothing but their facial expressions.
