Del Piero much? He too was extremely useful.

Only reason Alessandro got 3 more years is he was the mascot of the team.
    Tiger, Tiger.

Bob, Lampard said he'd take a big paycut and take whatever playing time Chelsea would give him, but Roman apparently said no regardless.

It's sad to see that Roman doesn't seem to appreciate or understand the loyalty Lampard is showing to his club; you don't very often see this in modern football. If I recall, he had the chance to move elsewhere during his time at Chelsea but chose to stay there instead. I actually see him retiring if he doesn't get something from Chelsea .

Yeah, it is really is shameful that Roman can't show Lampard the same respect and loyalty that Lampard's shown the club. Supposedly, Lampard's considering going to the LA Galaxy in the summer.

Who wouldn't go to play for the LA Galaxy when your time in the better leagues is apparently at an end? It's definitely the most glamorous team here.

I would go where the money is, the middle-east or China.

Doesn't that depend on your financial situation though? If he doesn't care as much about the level of salary, then I don't know why you'd pass up California.

I honestly dont know if he does or not but I doubt he would go to ME/China. We will see I suppose, but one thing is for sure he will not go from his current wages to MLS wages if it doesnt have incredibly commercial perks. But it does help that his current girlfriend is apparently looking to "break america" (one bland talkshow at a time). I think his decision in the end will influence his generation of English players (Gerrard, Cole, Ferdinand, Terry) as their careers begin ending too. Whatever happens though, I hope he goes into coaching. He's too smart to be wasted.

LOL, so then maybe it has more parallels with Beckham than I thought. Interesting.

Actually, Lampard was willing to take a salary as low as 50k a week in order to stay at Chelsea, but Roman said no to that. I don't think that Lamps cares that much about the cash as he's been earning 150k a week for a long time.

Nah... he got 3 more years because he was still the best striker they had lol. He may not have the legs anymore, but he sure as hell still has the finishing touch. I rather have him for 3 more years again than Bendtner.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but here's an interesting piece of Barcelona and La Masia

(Not sure if it can be viewed internationally, but I couldn't find it anywhere else )

Avoiding all of that, is there a Premier League team that you support, Gary?

    Avoiding all of what?

No. My fandom is locale-based. Without some sort of attachment to a team, I can't really be a TRUE fan. I like watching for players, and I always enjoy an underdog having success.

So my question for you is why do you support Chelsea?

More about La Masia and efforts here in the US to maybe replicate it

The silly talk about the US trying to make academies and improve, which just won't be happening.

Fair enough. So, do you support the Orioles, or does no one support the Orioles?

Well, when I started watching football in 97/98, I liked how they played from what I saw and then eventually when football came to America full time, Chelsea and United were the only teams that were pushed, which is probably why the vast majority of Americans who watch football support United or Chelsea.

I support France because of Zidane and I still support them, regardless of what happens or whether he's there anymore. It could be that the American commentators represented Brazil as the Evil Empire, but I just liked France's style and attacking verve, and that's been since 97.
