    Sasuke's Genjutsu had its day?

It seems to me that at the start of the series Genjutsu was a nigh on undefeatable technique. We we're told that even among high ranking ninjas the rules were "If fighting one on one with a Genjutsu (/Sharingan user) run away". At the same time it seems that Genjutsu has become more and more useless. Almost every enemy that Sasuke has fought has some way not to get caught in the big things thus forcing Sasuke to rely on other techniques or very small genjutsu's (ie the time delay he used on Danzo).

The excuse seems to be simple : All Kage level ninjas have developed ways to either avoid getting hit with genjutsu or become immune to it (like Bee/Hachibi and Naruto/Kyuubi). Because of this Sasuke etc have had to move on and use other techniques in order to fight at Kage level.

My question is therefore simple: why haven't they simply advanced the art of Genjutsu. When Itachi realised no one would look him in the eyes he developed the "finger-poke" technique, so why hasn't Sasuke developed a higher form of Genjutsu tech?

For the last paragraph, the most logical reason is that Sasuke isn't a Genjutsu specialist; but a Ninjutsu specialist. Or even more accurately, a jack of all trades. He's efficient in every aspect of ninja combat, just not the best at any of them. It'd take more time to master the best jutsu in every cell of ninja combat than it would to just gain a respectable knowledge of each.

Remember that Sasuke was a man on a mission. He needed to be as powerful as possible as quickly as possible. As for Kishimoto not making more hax Genjutsu and Genjutsu in general not seeming as powerful as it did in the beginning of the series, we did see one in Izanagi. It was damn near unbeatable without knowledge of it's secret.

One other point as to why Sasuke's (and other Genjutsu user's) Genjutsu was immediately obsolete is because no one wants to watch a fight where the victor simply looks at you and you fall over. It's boring as hell. Could you imagine the anger from both Sasuke fans AND Sasuke haters if the fight with Sasuke and Killerbee ended with Tsukiyomi? Kishi has to keep things interesting and whathaveyou. Baptising your enemy in the flames of hell is a tad more flashy than putting them to sleep, lol.

Their isn't really that many genjutsu users that have haxed genjutsu techniques. Kage level opponents don't generally get cough in basic genjutsu. The typically get cough in in S-class genjutsu like Tsukyomi or that frog song.

Itachi can easily win a battle without lifting a finger against even the strongest shinobi, but he is one of a kind.

Sasuke still has powerful genjutsu but it wouldn't work on opponents who trained their bodies to counter act genjutsu. The raikage told Sasuke that genjutsu couldn't work on him. Usually S-class shinobi are strong and smart enough to be able to counter act genjutsu.

Kish pretty much told us that Sasuke doesn't have what Itachi had to create very powerful genjutsu.

    Recession hit us all hard

Ma and Pa Toads genjutsu is insane.

If you can use genjutsu to take out several pains you can use it to take out hokage level targets.

I guess in the end its rock paper sissors and the manga would be stupid retarded if all sasuke had to do was look at someone to win a battle and there was no way to escape,

I agree that Sasuke is more of a ninjutsu specialist. Although I don't think it would be boring to see Sasuke win a majority of his fights using genjutsu, it's that he's not that type of fighter. Itachi's tsukuyomi was very interesting when it was actually shown, and what made him so powerful with it was that he got creative with how he used it. If Kishi showed us more detail of what is going on inside the mind of the victim it might be more interesting for the reader, but all we usually see is sharingan eyes behind the victim and then they fall. Also, I personally think his version of the tsukuyomi has gotten stronger with all his other jutsu as he's progressed. Against Deidra, the Cloud Ninja and then Danzo showed he's learning how and when to use it considering it's not his forte.
