    Thumbs Up Japanese Architecture

Japanese Architecture has a rich history and over the years has witnessed the birth of many different traditional styles. These include: temple, shrine, teahouse, rural farmhouse, urban townhouse, castle and aristocratic mansion.

“Japan has a long tradition of building with wood. The country boasts the oldest and largest wooden buildings in the world, many of which are temples. And Japan's unique style of wood-based architecture, ideally suited to the country's humid climate, is used for residences as well. Highly refined carpentry skills that have been cultivated over the centuries are incorporated into modern structures, and many outstanding edifices created by present-day Japanese architects have captured the attention of the world.” – Text from Web-Japan.

Have you come across an interesting image/piece/design? A unique building maybe? You may find out that a particular region in Japan has changed from a cultural stand point to keep up with the "modern times" and trends. Suprised? Would you like to share some of your favourite buildings/designs? Or you may have read that a particular building was constructed with unusual "building materials" to form a “true beauty”?

This thread is to share, discuss, appreciate, discover and dedicate all forms of Japanese Architecture with the Otaku Community! Both from a traditional and modern standpoint.

Note: Please respect each member's contribution and opinion; everyone's taste in colours, design, etc are different so there's no need to argue/bash over such things in the first place. You never know, you may come across a building that may resemble something you have seen in a particular manga/manhwa...which would be most interesting to discuss...

    Re: Japanese Architecture

Japan is a small country so they have to make good use of the little space they have.

Here is my grandparent's house in Tochigi prefecture. The house on the left is my great-uncle's house and is quite new; it's around eight years old.

Spoiler: Taken on New Years Day 2009 show

I'm sorry they're not that impressive. I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the average Japanese home.
