    Gon vs. Kurapica

    Gon vs. Kurapica

    ***Special circumstance for this fight***
: Gon is not allowed to use his age enhancement.

this keeps the others ones nicely aligned
    Gon

Gon Freecss, the young protagonist, is searching for the whereabouts of his father, the legendary Ging Freecss. A user of enhancement hatsu, Gon's hatsu is called JaJanken, based around the popular children's hand game.
this keeps the others ones nicely aligned
    Kurapica

Current leader of the Neon Nostrade's bodyguards, Kurapika of the Kurata clan is a brilliant analyst with an icy demeanor and a strong desire to avenge his clan against the Phantom Troupe. A materialization-type, he can summon special chains for each of his fingers on his right hand. When enraged, his eyes turn scarlet and he is able to use any type of Nen (the Emperor Time ability).

    Re: Genthru vs. Hisoka

A very one sided battle IMO. With that much skill and experience, Hisoka'll kick Genthru's ass. The only way for Genthru to win is for Hisoka to surrender.

    Re: Genthru vs. Hisoka

most of genthru's strength lies in not knowing what he can do while knowing hisoka's abilities barely does nothing to help you win against him.
also, genthru is far less combat experienced than hisoka.

one sided battle in favor of hisoka.

    Re: Genthru vs. Hisoka

I don't get why people consider hisoka as top level fighter. He's not considered top level by any mean.

Genthru's not that weak either. But because of his tendency to underestimate and fight only favorable battles he'll lose to hisoka.

    Re: Gon vs. Kurapica

This fight totally depend on how you define a win. The fight will be a draw. It has been stated in as early as hunter examination arc that kurapica will fight no one if it's not require and will fight anyone if necessary. And gon won't fight a friend. So this match up is pretty much moot.

    Re: Gon vs. Kurapica

For now lets not consider that they are friends - this is a more a hypothetical match up tournament. Lets just say that they need to fight for whatever reason though that isn't to say friendship wouldn't be a key factor in this fight - or rather the fact that Gon isn't a Ryodan :P.

That being the case outside of his Ryodan specific abilities Kurapica can just use his chain with a ball - he is materialization after all that is the weapon he created. Problem is the rest of his abilities are suppressed fighting Gon. So its a matter of Kurapica being a mid-range fight. We've seen Kurapica to be a rather agile fighter somewhat lacking in offensive strength. Course he could use his twin blades again - which he seems to have abandoned - but I'd say he has a better chance fighting mid than close range against Gon since I find Gon to outclass him on that front thanks to his nen, agility, and limberness. Also that being Gon's preferred way of fighting I would think its best to avoid such a scenario. Keeping Gon at a distance would be the ideal way to deal with him. Yet... I find that even then that Kurapica's greatest weakness against Gon is his instinct to fight. Kurapica I find to be more orthodox in how he handles a fight than Gon. He lacks the spontaneity of thinking that Gon has which I'll discuss more below.

Gon on the other hand does not have the same type of limitation placed on him - i.e. he is free to use his power. Moreover, being of the strengthening type along with his training he is capable of defending himself well against incoming attacks as well as playing offensively. He's certainly agile - along with his height and limberness from age - I dare say above Kurapica but also quite capable of taking hits thanks to his nen. More importantly Gon I find to be less orthodox than Kurapica in fighting in that he has a sharp sense of fighting instincts to use the environment well - look at the Battle Tower fight with Hisoka when he started breaking the ground or even the Gensuru strategy he came up with. His instinct to fight I find to be quite remarkable at what he can do. Kurapica isn't bad in his ability to strategize but I find that different from instincts to fight - as the former lacks the flexibility of an intense quick straight on match or adjust to the unexpected (which Gon tends to sum up Gon for me - unexpected). Gon may not be the smartest guy around but when it comes to fighting it seems that is where his brains went to XD. In addition Gon of course has his janken technique against Kurapica which allows him for better versatility - switching from close to mid (seeing as the emission type hasn't really shown much promise I wouldn't count on that being such a help).

Now I find the use of environment to be very important as Gon in a sense can fight very similar to Ubogin - who did manage to surprise Kurapica with the way he used the environment to create a smoke screen I don't see Gon as being any less creative in what he can do with his nen. He can easily do the same with one huge blast to the ground with a "rock" punch. The crucial difference with that fight and this is that Kurapica is unable to use the rest of his other types of nen - such as strengthening which is important - to defend and heal himself from injuries. In fact I don't see Kurapica's win over Ubogin being one to over power a foe as to suppress him - in other words its not brute strength he used but use of control type to force him into zetsu combined with his chain's other nen components. I don't see Kurapica as being able to take hits as well as Gon - whom we've seen has taken ALOT of punishment over the series. Adding to that Kurapica using just his materialization chain lacks the strength to really badly damage a foe. That being his weapon as well it may not be far off to even see Gon just grabbing Kurapica's chain and rushing up to him with a powered up punch or "rock" or even "scissors".

There are other reasons but I would say that those are the gist of why I'd say Gon wins this one.

    Re: Gon vs. Kurapica

I think gon would have an overwhelming victory here. For one thing, gon just had a no less than significant powerup through his training with bisk. He used bisk ability to rest other people into full strength and did weeks or perhaps even months worth of training in a matter of 1 month. Kurapica is talented but his growth rate is not that of gon nor I doubt he has had a hyperbolic time chamber kinda thing going on. Basically, regarding nen usage gon should be miles ahead of kurapica easily right now. Anyways, as kurapica was before he should not stand a chance against gon. More importantly, gon is not a member of the ryodan. If gon were a member of the ryodan kurapica's special nen would most definitely defeat gon however that is not the case. Basically, kurapica can never use his full potential against gon, he has to use his natural abilities. Even if kurapica has gone through some awesome training it is unlikely he would match up to gon since gon's growth rate should be much higher. Gon wins IMO.

    Re: Genthru vs. Hisoka

^How is hisoka not a top level fighter? The manga has pointed towards that many times. In terms of skills I doubt we have seen more than a few nen users who can even match hisoka (let alone best him). He has even used his skills in the face of the ryodan and they never even noticed. That is quite impressive IMO. Hisoka and genthru are both natural fighters however my impression is that hisoka is the more skilled one by quite a big.

That said, did genthru have a tendency to underestimate his enemies? I don't remember that being said nor it being showed in the manga.

    Re: Gon vs. Kurapica

The issue is that we didn't see Kurapica for years. His last apparition was at yorkshin.
I give the win to Kurapica. He (she ?) is extremely calm, analytic & smart. Even if he have only one chance in a million, he will take that chance. I think that Kurapica will be able to trap Gon.

    Re: Genthru vs. Hisoka

both hisoka and genthru are definitely two well-seasoned fighters. they both have some tricks up their sleeves involving their nen. it seems though when genthru is on the defensive he can start to panic a little bit, as he was with gon even though he was quite superior to gon in terms of nen. hisoka on the other hand has always had either a calm manner or a pissed of manner with no forms of backing down. hisoka has always had that air around him basically saying hes the shit. he takes the cake for me in this fight if you haven't noticed.

    Re: Genthru vs. Hisoka

I don't see how Hisoka using skills in front of the rest of the ryoden is any indication of his power. It doesn't translate into fighting power directly. Otherwise going with that logic we can even say that Leorio is one of the top fighter because he out smarted ryoden and help capturing Kuroro.

Secondly Hisoka is weaker than Kuroro. Or in any case not stronger than Kuroro. Otherwise he'd have no reason to fight Kuroro. And Kuroro is not head and shoulder above the rest of ryoden otherwise he'd have no need for the ryoden's existence at all.

    Re: Gon vs. Kurapica

Not considering their relationship in the fight is just pointless in the match up. In fact the whole match up are quite pointless. It has been stated several time that victory doesn't not depend by nen power alone. It depends on the condition of both fighter and the preparation and skills among other factors. The mentality behind these match up is precisely why Biscuit beats up Killua.

And if they do fight kurapica can easily win the fight simply by taking hits and healing himself. Gon will never use his technique on Kurapica and will concede the fight. Like I said it's pointless. This match up is just a popularity contest in disguise. Let's say for example look at Biscuit's graph in chapter 210. E can defeat C, C can defeat D, but it doesn't follow that E can defeat D. In fact in the case of A, B, C fighting D it is useless talking about a match up base on power alone.

    Re: Genthru vs. Hisoka

Hisoka does not just fight people who he thinks are stronger than him. Remember when he fought gon? If hisoka was tied down and blindfolded gon still would not have had a sliver of a chance in hell of winning, thats how much of a difference there was. Hisoka fights people who he finds interesting, people who rub him in a certain way, those who for whatever reason amuse him. Strength might cause any of that but that alone is not necessarily a factor. Now, I think in terms of nen skill hisoka and kuroro are overall even. A fight between them would be decided by how they use their abilities rather than a difference in strength IMO.

Also, hisoka using his skill in the noses of the ryodan and not being noticed is relevant. He has enough control over his nen, finesse and sheer skill to do that. I don't think fooling a bunch like that so easily is something that could be pulled by anyone but a extremely high level nen user.
