    Definition of horror:
Have you ever felt the helplessness of flushing a clogged toilet and seeing the water rise up? True fear.

    Re: MAKOTO Yukimura(mature)

This guy has easily become one of my favorite mangaka of all time. Though I haven't finished Planetes, I do like what I've read. Because Goodbyes Are Coming Soon is just absolutely fantastic especially considering it's only a one-shot. And of course, I am deeply in love with Vinland Saga. Even though I don't want Vinland Saga to end, I'm excited to see what Yukimura comes up with after it.

I really enjoy Vinland and enjoyed Goodbyes are Coming Soon but have not read Planetes yet. I love the Vinland's cycle of violence and vengeance, even more that the characters gain no satisfaction from being a part of it yet won't break the cycle.

Isn't the thread title supposed to be YUKIMURA Makoto?
I think what I love from his works is how he draw about how the character see their world and the human connection of the characters. And how people interprete about love with different meanings.

I adore Vinland Saga, hope it gets an anime soon. I'm actually watching the Planetes anime at the moment lol.

Reading some of his notes in Vinland Saga is really interesting, its pretty cool that he actually traveled around and did solid research before writing it

I'm not sure about the specific events but his depiction of life during the middle ages is dead on, more accurate than the average text books. The way wars were fought, slavery, the poverty, and tribalism is very accurate.

I really love Vinland Saga and i like Planetes too. To be honest i am very happy Vinland Saga moved from Shounen magazine to Seinen magazine as it gives it more freedom with the storytelling. (imo)
Btw, i tried looking for "Because goodbyes are coming too soon" in mangatraders but i can't find it. Do you know any other place where i can read it?

His art improved when he moved back to Afternoon, IMO.

The links not in the OP but there is a Vinland Saga Forum.

It's in the one shots section of mangatraders, on page 7 (sorry, staff can't post direct links for legal reasons).

I don't know when he switched it, but it always was kinda Seinen imo. At a quite early point some vikings decide to rape a woman and beat her up when she defends, offering Thorfinn to have his part as well. That didn't really look like a Shounen moment

I read Planetes and Vinland saga and both are absolutely awesome imo. I also like the style of the arts very much. Yukimura is a great author

    Re: MAKOTO Yukimura(mature)

^ Oh, i don't remember there was a scene like that in the beginning!
As far as i remember, it was quite violent even in the beginning. I guess it was aimed for older teenagers then.

    What i meant by 'more freedom with storyline' is that i don't think younger readers would appreciate so much talk about the meaning of life and revenge like what we have in the current 'Farmland Saga' (lol). If Vinland Saga is shounen, all i can think about is to have Thorfinn continue fighting alongside Canute. Then they'll have adventure together conquering lands, complete with flashy action scenes and 'cool war scenes.' =___=;;
I don't know, i guess i overgeneralize shounen genre too much.

I like the current Vinland Saga anyway. xD

    Re: MAKOTO Yukimura(mature)

One thing I appreciate of Yukimura a lot is his sense for details and humor. I think there wasn't a single joke in Vinland Saga and Planetes which didn't gave me a full sized laughing fit. He implements them perfectly.
What I mean about details are things like this:
    Spoiler show

On the original page, it's just a small panel amongst six. Fee is having an argument with Tanabe about the cat, and suddenly Yuri flies around in the background, definitly approving the idea of having a pet on the ship
