Askeladd. He may dead now, but he's still one of the most intriguing characters in the series. One of my favorite scenes is after beating Thorfinn barehanded and berating him for his continued stupidity, he tells Thorfinn: "Now let me tell you how to kill someone who you really hate." Badass.
Vinland Saga has a lot of great characters, but so far my favourite's definitely Askeladd. As some other already mentioned, he's convoluted and not the selfish antagonist he looked like at the beginning. Thorfinn sure has a lot of potential but I'm not that satisfied with his behaviour so far. Let's see how much he can grow as time pass by
Thorfinn for me, I'm a sucker for main characters.
Canute really grew on me though. I liked him when he was innocent so his drastic change to a badass was awesome.
Thorkell to, big lovable oaff. Cool fighting style to. I'll bet he's holding thorfinns dagger for him.
Askeladd no doubt. Thorfinn is a great character too. But askeladd was the one who knew himself and his surroundings well and had control over it. Yet he has his share of weakness, and can't do anything against it except accepting it. I always love this sort of character.

Respect the wheat.
I really didn't like Askeladd.
Why do you like Canute, Devil Hunter? Are your reasons the same as other readers here? Is there something unique about the character even if he is secondary?
After him comes the manly Canute.. I simply love how he developed into such a fine king from being such a wuss... And the new Canute kind of reminds me of Askeladd.
When you say "Manly Canute", you're saying you didn't like him at the start when he was a kid? Only after the time lapse?
That was the same for me. I happen to love the development of Canute from innocent into something so... affably evil.
Now Askeladd was really, trully cruel and evil. I mean, what was up with slaughtering that village
and to answer the forum question: for me it is Canute. For the same reason that everybody else likes him: that he manned up, and the way that development was played out is even cooler.
As this being the first post on this forum -- account made because of Vinland Saga -- I ll probably make a top of characters.
Askeladd is by far my favourite. Great tactician. For example when he fought Thors (which is also a great character) he chose to dash under the falling mast in order to surprise him ... great decision. Also he is a little as Thorkell as he wants to see Thors only to see why was Floki afraid of.
Thorkell would be the second. Huge amount of strength. He uppercut a horse, sent Thorfinn flying, threw a spear through 3 men from huge distance. Also he is sincere and honorable as he accepts defeat.
The third would be Einar.
The one I like the least is Ragnar's brother.
Welcome and very good choice for making your first post in the Vinland section, 2878! See ya around!
Askeladd or Thorkell
But if I had to choose between those two, it'll probably be Thorkell
Thorkell seems to be an easily likeable fellow. Since he's not the cunning type of person- doubt may come where his loyalties lie but as long as he has fun fighting, he doesn't seem to care for anything else. Suffice to say he has no ulterior motive but his own pleasure. He doesn't seem to be the thinking type who worries about the future. A care-free person.
