Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni vs Kyōraku Shunsui

    Yamamoto vs. Shunsui

this keeps the others ones nicely aligned
    Yamamoto

Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni is the captain of the 1st division and also the Captain-Commander of the whole Gotei 13. The oldest captain, Yamamoto is a loyal and serious man who is well-respected almost universally among shinigami. He follows the laws of Soul Society to the letter and does not tolerate insubordination. As the founder of the Shinō Academy along with over two millennia of combat experience, Yamamoto is revered as the most powerful combatant in Soul Society. His zanpakutō, Ryūjin Jakka, is the oldest and the most powerful fire-type zanpakutō. When released in shikai, Ryūjin Jakka's blade is engulfed into fire. The aura of this weapon can disintegrate everything and anything that Yamamoto waves the sword at, being capable of incinerating an area even greater than that of Karakura Town. He is also able to use the powerful special shikai abilities Jōkaku Enjō and Ennetsu Jigoku.

    Shunsui

Kyōraku Shunsui is the captain of the 8th Division. He is a laid back and flamboyant man, evident in his style of dress and general attitude, and he is rarely seen without a smile on his lips. He is often seen drinking sake and napping or attempting to chase after women. Despite his seemingly carefree attitude and general dislike for confrontation, as one of the oldest and most powerful captains in Soul Society, Shunsui is a fearsome opponent. His zanpakutō, Katen Kyōkotsu, is unique in that it exists as two completely separate swords. In its shikai, Katen Kyōkotsu has the power to "make kids' games real". The zanpakutō makes the rules and anyone who steps within the boundaries of its spiritual pressure is forced to play by those rules, including Shunsui himself. The games that have been shown are called Bushōgoma, Takaoni, Kageoni, and Irooni.

    Yet another formality for Yamamoto:

    Speed: Yama
    Reiatsu: Yama
    Kido: Yama
    Swordsmanship: Yama
    Abilities: Yama
    Intellect: Yama
    Strength: Yama

Yamamoto gets a decent warm-up from this battle for the final match!

Yamamoto Honestly. Reality warping games or not, when Yama's got his pimphand out, the opposition goes down.

Yamamoto for everything he has said about Shunsui and more importantly, everything said about Yamamoto from Shunsui himself.

Yamamoto would rape Shunsui =/. Talk about a guy who fodderized the guy who fodderized Shunsui.

Re: Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni vs Kyōraku Shunsui

I'm going to play devil's advocate and speak for Shunsui for a moment.

Neither of two know the others abilities, but I'm sure that Shunsui can quickly figure out that he will need to release to fight Yamamoto. Shunsui's games can be quite sneaky like Kageoni, and Irooni doesn't seem like it is something against which Yama can block.

Yama can probably tank these games individually, but Shunsui is crafty enough that he might be able to slowly wear down a very traditional, straightforward fighter like Yama-jii whose stamina (based solely on databook stats mind you) might not be something that can withstand a very prolonged match.

Although Yamamoto is heavily favored to win, Shunsui has a random element to his attacks and a very cunning mind that might be worth considering. I'm probably going to withhold my vote for a while to see if anyone can come up with an interesting argument for Shunsui.

Shunsui is amazing fighter and one of the strongest shinigami there is. Against anyone else, shunsui would have an incredibly high chance of winning. But yamamto is basically a god in this shinigami world. He can basically bitch slap any shinigami we have seen.

Even if shunsui were to get hit strongest hit in with the color game, I still see yama going and going. Shunsui is one of my favorites... but yama is just on another level

Yamamoto takes his shirt off, and is too tan for Shunsui to hit. Color game is now worthless! DX

Re: Yamamoto Genryūsai Shigekuni vs Kyōraku Shunsui

Shunsui standing up to Yamamoto is a non-issue. Implying that Shunsui's is going to be able to release his swords and actually set up Kageoni or Irooni. Even if he was able to...

Every single one of his games is a double edged sword whether or not the opponent knows about. Let me explain.

    Takaoni - Whoever's higher
Irooni - Color game (you can cut or be cut regardless; calling the color risks yourself)
Kageoni - Shadow game (Both combatants can hide in the shadows)

The only one that's not is Bushogoma, and that's not going to do anything to Yamamoto. Furthermore, we've seen that a Cero from Stark can completely compromise a game (citation: Takaoni.)

Shikai Shunsui would not stand a chance.

U are assuming that the opponent knows what each game entitles. U think if shunsui calls out takaoni, the opponent will automatically think "oh crap, I need to be higher"... no

Despite not knowing his abilities, wouldn't anyone in their right mind be trembling at the thought of fighting Yamamoto? Wouldn't that give a psychological edge to Yamamoto, kind of like with Nanao back in the SS Arc?

No I'm not. Invalid parallel and strawman. Don't try that chip on the shoulder hubris thing with me bro.

It's inadvertent. They don't have to know to be higher. In fact Yamamoto doesn't need to know anything because he can just negate it like Stark did here.

I completely agree with you about the games being a double-edged sword (goes so well with his two-sword theme ) and also about Yamamoto being able to handle all of the games, but I was just curious about what you said about Kageoni with both contestants being able to hide in the shadows. I could not remember Starrk hiding in the shadows with that. It is probably possible, but I was just wondering if it occrred in the manga as I don't recall.

I also pay reverence at the Temple of Yamamoto and think that Shunsui probably doesn't stand a snowball's chance in a blazing inferno, but I'm trying to at least think of something to make the match more interesting. I'm definitely going to be voting Yama-jii in the end, but can anyone think of any possible scenario in which Shunsui could do something useful?

It never happened in the manga, only anime, so i guess it doesn't count as cannon
