    Han Chan-Woo (Goomoonryong) Discussion thread

Han Chan-Woo more commonly referred as Nine Arts Dragon, is one of main characters in the series. He was the master of Shioon in part 1. He is feared amongst the Murim. Even the Chief of Martial Arts Alliance (MAA) was wary of him.

Goomoonryong was last shown having affiliation with Black Forest Defence, a group of martial artists that oppose the Martial Arts Alliance. Chan-Woo attained the title of Goomoonryong when he won Shinmujengpe (a martial arts tournament).

That should cover the basics I hope. Lets have a healthy and friendly discussion...

aw i miss GMR we didn't saw GMR since the beginning of new waves so there is not much to say about him yet. But im pretty sure at one point of the story either he will die and shioon will become the next GMR or he will stay alive and he won't get along with shioon and they will become enemies.

Yep no GMR so far in the New Waves. It shouldn't be long though, keeping him away so long isn't good for us readers. Anyway, we can still talk about what he did or anything related to him so far in the series.

At part 1. he was funny as hell. All his interactions with that blond teacher? His style of teaching also was awesome and i miss him as character because he gave manhwa precise feeling. His fighting style ( Way of Black Heaven it was? i read it somewhere but don't remember where.) is pure awesomeness.

Can't wait when he will be back in NW.

I am sure you will agree, Chan-Woo character was one of the major factor that made The Breaker epic. Laid back yet always ready to kick anyone's a**. The Breaker without him, I don't know feel a little empty.

i'm not really sure if this is the right thread but i think GMR will discover that the boss of black forest defense knows a lot of martial arts and the boss is the one that killed song's master and he even knows BHT :P

I believe that he "only" wants to get it from GMR !!!

The one to discover the truth behind who was decieving GMR, I think that it would be non other than Shioon.

Nontheless, whatever may happen the story in this manhwa is still one of the best I have ever been
    reading...
Spoiler: sample from originally colourful manhwa Tower of God show

It never ceases to amaze me:

I really don't expect to see him till late series where he will reveal weather S.U.C is his idea or not .

I also have to say I never really liked the guy . I do although hope that the guy from Sudawoo clan who came into Shioon's fight comes more ofter [look at my sig , it has him]

Re: Han Chan-Woo (Goomoonryong) Discussion thread

I've been rereading old chapters and i'm not sure how to say this other than....Han Chan-Woo does not seem like a good guy.

Maybe it's just his latest appearance coloring my opinion of him but it seems like every time he did the right thing he did it because of some influence Shioon had on him; and even then he tended to go about things as violently as he possibly could. He also seems to do violent things enthusiastically and peaceful things reluctantly.

He may be strong but it seems like Shioon and Shiho were his moral compass. It kinda makes sense to me now why the entire alliance wanted him gone, not that they are saints either mind you, he's a dangerous man.

I agree with you there but in this story no murim-in is actually supposed to be good, all murim guys are acting according to their benefits. At least that is why author wants to portray.
Since GMR is portrayed as ultimate existence, he does not have anything to gain from murim and he is out of their influence. a man so strong yet out of their control is naturally their enemy.

    Very precise and correct analysis.

In my humble opinion, the violence stemmed from what happened to his master. He was treated badly by Murims. There is a saying, part of it, Power corrupts. He had the power and the circumstances he went through, violence may have looked an easy and appropriate answer.

I don't see him as a bad person. A bad person wouldn't be throwing his life around when he saw someone close to him getting killed. His methods may be questionable but there is no doubt that he cares about Shioon and Shiho.

Re: Han Chan-Woo (Goomoonryong) Discussion thread

At the time he helped Shioon i wouldn't have called him bad either.

His base character always had this element to it that reveled in violence. He seemed to enjoy intimidation and physical domination of others. That's what worries me about him. It's that kind of thing can spiral downward and turn a ok guy into a straight up monster.

To throw a quote out there......
"Nearly all men can stand adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power."
    — Abraham Lincoln

It really seems to me that Han Chan-Woo is a man who has always been teetering on the edge of failing that test. Which creates an especially stark contrast between him and his student because Shioon doesn't seem to know any way to handle power other than "responsibly".

Re: The Breaker: New Waves Q/A Thread

Uhm... you're right about a few points. I was wrong on those, but I never read anything about the 5 SUC leaders being ex-BFD members.

    From The Breaker wikia:
    Quote Quote:
The Soldiers Under Command, better known as S.U.C. are members of the Murim that see Goomoonryong as their "god" and are supposedly all disciples of Goomoonryong, who plans to take over the world. Judging from a conversation between Goomoonryong and a member of Black Forest Defense, it would seem that the S.U.C have had no contact with Goomoonryong and that they are mearly using his name to gather followers.
I don't understand what GMR is doing though. From my interpretation of what I saw, the guy seen talking to GMR (the same guy who order the sniper to shot Shiho in the first part) is the leader of Black Forest Defence, so why letting GMR kill the executive members of BFD? (IF they were of BFD). I'm not understanding shit about the plot! The authors are keeping it too mysterious! Also, was the leader of BFD asking GMR if he wanted to meet the leaders of SUC? What the heck is going on?!

Firstly , Ur assuming that GMR knows how Shiho died . Secondly , in the first 4-5 chapters , it was clear that GMR trusted him . The trust is misplaced , but whatever .

Also , having ppl under him allows for GMR to find what transcended that day more easily . Of course the dark guy is just using this and most probably just leading him to either dead ends or false leads none of which connect to himself .

I'm not assuming anything; all the opposite! I'm perfectly aware that GMR doesn't know shit about Shiho's death, and that's exactly why he's talking with "mr. shady guys" instead of killing him in the most painful way a human mind can imagine. I said that in the latest chapter topic a few days ago!

P.S. "What transcended that day"? You mean what happened the day Shiho died? I don't think GMR is looking for answers. He just wants to burn the entire world to ashes since he basically lost all that was dear to him (Shiho, his love, and Shioon, his beloved pupil for who he had the greatest expectations, much like anyone who ever saw Shioon's awesome talent). C'mon, he lost the most sexy woman ever to appear in a manga AND he had to give his pupil some really nasty memories and strip him of all his powers/talent just because of his own thirst for revenge. I bet GMR is blaming himself for what happened, more than the murims he so much hates.
