Student of the first two Hokage and teacher of the legendary Sannin, Konohagakure's Third Hokage is a very powerful and accomplished shinobi, having earned such lofty epithets as "The Professor" and "God of Shinobi." Noted as the strongest Hokage Konohagakure ever had, he stands as the longest living and longest reigning Hokage, but with his old age, he has become a shadow of his former self, although he still was able to face off impressively against his two predecessor Hokage and his student Orochimaru. He is a master of all forms of shinobi combat and an encyclopedia of jutsu, said to know all of the techniques of Konoha. He is capable of using Katon and Doton. He can summon the Monkey King, Enma, who can transform into a protective cage or an adamantine staff of variable size to be wielded by Hiruzen.

He is the leader of the Samurai and a very skilled swordsman. He also had the opportunity to fight Hanzou and learn from him, while the latter was in his prime. This made him a man with a will of steel and with the sharpness of a Meitou. His primary technique, Iai-jutsu (or the technique of drawing) allows him to be fast and disrupt the seal making process of ninjutsu. With high-poison resistance, great offensive power as well as superb speed he is one of the most interesting fighters in the series.

This one is no brainer for me.
Hiruzen stomps.
I am not downgrading Mifune or anything, but he simply has not shown enough feats to be considered anywhere near old monkey's level.

Hiruzen wins this one. Even if Mifune specializes in stopping shinobi to use ninjutsu, Hiruzen still stomps.

While it's worth noting that Mifune was able to stop Hanzo before he did handsels, so Hiruzen maybe can't summon Emma at all, but I honestly doubt it, especially when he can use smoke bombs.

So yeah, Hiruzen uses Emma and defeats Mifune with the superior weapon

I don't see this as a stomp at all. Hiruzen is old and a shadow of his former self. Hanzou was supposed to be a beast and Mifune easily countered his seal making. Hiruzen might be fast at performing seals but his overall speed is only given a 3 in the databooks. If Mifune gets close enough he should have no problem interrupting Hiruzen's seals. Even if Hiruzen manages to summon Enma his speed isn't that great, given how fast Mifune seemed in the manga I'm inclined to give him an edge in speed so this match isn't nearly as easy as it seems to be in my opinion. Even if Enma might be a superior weapon, the weapon is useless if Mifune is fast enough to deliver a fatal blow. I'm not casting my vote yet, just throwing out why I think Mifune stands more than a fair chance.

My vote goes to Hiruzen, even if Mifune could stop his hand signs all Hiruzen would have to do is a few shadow clone jitsus to get a feel for Mifune's speed and use some of his Earth and/or Fire style jitsu to keep him at bay. Ultimately without his sword Mifune is died meat against the 3rd Hokage.

Even if Hiruzen is being called the Professor, he is old and from what we saw, most of his jutsus require a lot of handseals, which is a true weakness against a Samurai specialized at preventing a ninja to use ninjutsu. Shadow clones is very risky.

If Hiruzen manages to summon Enma, the fight would be much more difficult for Mifune. So I think that as long as Mifune do not let Hiruzen summons Enma he has a fair chance...but Hiruzen is also an old monkey, he is not too bad with his explosive tags.

Mifune takes it. 3rd hokage is not as great as he used to be in his prime+ mifune has a fast teq that doesnt allow his opponents to cast seals. In what i have seen Hiruzenrelies on seals way too much

Hiruzen defenetly. If he can defent vs 2 kage level dudes in complete darkness by smell alone he will have no problem bloking Mifune's katana. All he needs its to pop his summon and its GG.

The main problem for Hiruzen is that he can't use handseals because of Mifunes Iai technique. If Hiruzen finds an opening for summoning Enma, this should be an easy win for him. Taking into account how he defended against two Hokages while being in absolute darkness, he can definitely manage that.

Once Enma is summoned, he can defend Hiruzen from Mifune, thus enabling him to fight normally. From then on, Hiruzen wins this.

Hiruzen stomps. Iaijutsu managed to cut Hanzo before he could perform handseals, but he was already literally like 4 feet away making range a non-issue. It's different if he's trying to get in, avoiding a hailfire of Karyu Endan or Doryu Taiga to get a chance to use that sword against him... a him that might end up being a damn clone by the time he gets inside.

I'm gonna play Devil's advocate here and say Mifune. He's lacking in feats for sure, but the ease at which he dispatched Hanzou impressed me a lot. The speed for not allowing hand seals is also trouble for Hiruzen, as I don't think he can compete with Mifune in CQC.

Close either way for me, but I'll say Mifune.

Hiruzen wins because Mifune can't really employ his flash draw for Hiruzen not to be able to use jutsu because Hiruzen got a Weapon(forgot its name)..
