Yeah but he's had that reputation ever since he left SNL after the first season. Nothing really new and I question whether those recordings were genuine or not.

Reputations just don't go away. It's not easy to be one of the most popular comedic actors in a generation and just STOP making movies or TV for over a decade. He's notoriously difficult.

I don't know. My point is he stopped making things, so that would mean he didn't have to change the way he is. He got on Community 3 years ago, but he's a supporting character. I doubt he has to work.
