I've just been wondering how a middle schooler could survive on his own without parents, without working, and only by his own. Where did he get money for food? And bills? Even if Gantz could fill people up while transferring I would've starved to death every 12 days...hope this will fill everything in

Well there's no proof so far that Nishi is homeless. He could live with a guardian or be a ward of the state. Most likely he just lives with his dad, I mean his father had an affair and left but Nishi probably had to go live with him after

his mother killed herself.(from what I understand about Gantz minus)

It kind of painted his dad as an adulterer not a monster so I'd be surprised if he abandoned his son.

In my mind I image that Nishi blames his father for what his mother did and can't stand being around him so he runs away a lot, thus why he's out all the time.


Then again... Nishi died form a fall after being chased by the police for shoplifting. But then again Izumi died in a car crash while being chased by the police for grand theft auto,

...so sometimes people just die stupid.

I hope we see some people try and fuck with Nishi in an alley or something. The few chapters that showed us what went down at his school were among the most epic in Gantz. In other words: show us Nishi killing people!

You're getting your manga and anime mixed up.

The "LOVE" sign thing doesn't show up in the manga. The only real significance of that is that it involves Nishi's laptop, which in the manga his website will lead Izumi to Kurono. The Love sign is iconic it's in West Shinjuku, that's just a play of his name Nishi=West. That area of towns host to a large number of office and government buildings, I doubt the buildings important I think he's more, looking too the sky.

Nishi's never been seen killing the homeless. You're thinking of the filler characters Hajime Muroto and Kajimura Ryuji.

Ok fuck, I couldn't resist. Had a look at the raw. Looks like it's just a fun side story I guess.

No real significance to the plot or to Nishi's character but it looks interesting nonetheless.

Looks like it's not just weird girls that are interested in Nishi. Lol.

I guess there wasn't much to expect from a single chapter but I kind of wished we would get some idea of what Nishi is up to.

Overall though I really like this idea of releasing a few standalone chapters to potentially flesh out the characters or just as a bit of fun as a sidestory. I hope Oku maybe does a few more of these for some of the other characters like maybe Kaze/Takeshi who we don't get to see much of. And more of Nishi!

At this stage there's no reason to think this will happen but it would be great if Oku gave this a go.

An interesting fact is that the Magazine Nishi is reading on Page 4 (Weekly Jump 36) came out in July 2009:

Since the Catastrophe is supposed to be around January 2010 guess the events on this chapter take place a couple of months before the classroom slaughter.
