"Nihongo wo nan nen gurai benkyoushite imasu ka?"... I think... "Year" is "nen/toshi". I might have it completely wrong though. ><
Yes sensei I was trying to pronounce it and "nen" is right

Haha, yes, for me too. Listening to songs or people talking in anime with the translation right away for years, you can't helped but caught some phrases. XD

Yeah, kanji uses Chinese characters. That's a pain for me too who fails in Chinese.

Yep, they help. And if you're into dramas and games, that helps too. Basically, anything that's interesting and fun to you and it's in Japanese.

Kanji are derrived from the Chinese characters, but that was long ago. As I'm aware, for the most part kanji look like Chinese characters, but not always have the same meaning and can have two, three or more readings or meanings depending on where they are in a word and stuff like that. You should read somewhere about it, because I'm writing it by memory.

And I'm a sensei now? xD I really wouldn't consider myself a sensei (especially since I've forgotten a lot since going to lessons). Even "senpai" doesn't feel like me.

To Shinsatsu (and anyone else who wants to learn Japanese), I'd recommend to search for a raw of some manga for kids or young teenagers. The Japanese is simple, there aren't many hard kanji and there is always furigana, so you'll be able to read and understand it.

Oh, and... I don't wanna sound like I'm very aware of things and like I know everything. I just want to help with what I can.

No! every little tip is highly appreciated! If I learn Japanese, it'll be the biggest achievement of my life ! Because NO ONE speaks Japanese here + There are no private classes nor Japanese language schools + I'm learning on my own with no sensei + It's something I love.

I know, I know, but a lot aren't the same, right? There were times that I searched for kanji and couldn't find their meaning. Then I realized they're Chinese. And the Japanese are slightly different.

Really, there's no classes? That's bad. Aren't there some schools with rare languages?

Anyway, I'll try to help with what I can then. ^^ You have Skype?

Yeah, that's cool. When you can read, you're close to knowing the language, right? I have some books in Japanese, but I still haven't read them, cause I'm not very good with kanji.

A PM from you with some rare specimen (websites and stuff) would be really appreciated!!
"meanwhile...grammar, grammar, kanji, grammar..." : god help me

One more thing! Arabic is the most complicated language IMO... Someone who mastered that will have less to worry about when it comes to other languages.

Oh yeah, you have a point there! Everytime I see Arabic somewhere, I wonder how that can be learnt. o.o (No offence with that.) But I know nothing about Arabic, so...
