Hey everyone, I just felt like sharing an article I wrote on our lovable Ice Queen, Olivier Mira Armstrong. You can read it at:
I was wondering what did everyone think of her. I thought she was one of the more tougher female characters in all of anime and manga.
Indeed, Olivier is one of the strongest and toughest and most kickass women the anime/manga world has seen. I love how she could care less about hierarchy and who ranks above whom, and shows it. She's an inspiration, really. I guess the fact that such a strong female character was written can be at least in part attributed to the fact that Arakawa herself is a woman.
Yeah, I don't think most male mangaka would portray women that strong.
Nice article, tony! Thanks for sharing it here. ^^
Olivier is indeed a fantastic character. She has good looks but doesn't rely on them at all. She brings so much more to the table (strength, intelligence, charisma, ruthlessness, etc) and that's what makes her such a strong leader. I agree with sally's assessment that Arakawa being a woman certainly contributes to her being such a well-written character (although Arakawa is simply excellent at characterization in general. I mean, there isn't a single character in the FMA world that I can say I disliked or that I feel was not fleshed out enough.)
But yeah, I wish there were more characters out there like Olivier.
Thanks for reading. I liked her because of how she intimidated Ed and Al and in the background, there was a bear. When she took out Raven, Olivier won my heart. "You spoke of foundations, now you're now going to be part of Briggs' foundation!" I like how she didn't believe in immortality and its perks.
