It is strange there are not a lot of main character deaths in the final phase, counting from the invasion, maybe because it is the final one and Oku needs the characters all together to beat the four eyed invaders, plus he added some new characters as well, totally not like the Gantz we were used to, if it was during Osaka the new guys would be dead by now.

@Damura: Nerdo joining was more likely than the drug addled rapist volunteering.
And as short lived as he was, I liked Hanaki. Nice seeing someone use the Gantz bike to full effect. And thought it was interesting he managed to set up a scanner for point levels.

@Josef K.: Yeah, but this is the final team in a way. Doubt they'll all make it, but it would of been a shame, if not a little pointless, if all the new guys died in their first fight.

@York: There are plenty of believable scenarios in which he may have joined the team or at least shown up. I wasn't really ever expecting it during Katastrophe though. What I really wanted to see was him in action during Italy. It was a huge disappointment for the whole extra Osaka chapter to go to Nerdo.

Osaka introduced heaps of interesting characters. It set a lot of them up as both clever and dangerous, and then it killed them all off one by one.. Hanaki (is that his name?) was one of my favorites. He did some pretty interesting stuff with the standard technology on hand. It was more interesting than Oka showing up in the boring mech and the flying bike anyway. I'm just disappointed that Oku kept the shitty characters and got rid of all the interesting ones. Anzu started off okay but what the fuck did Oku do to her? First she sacrifices herself for someone she just met, even though she has a kid, then he forces Nerdo to uncharacteristically survive Italy AND get the points to revive Anzu... and then he sends them both to Tokyo to go on a suicide mission, even though she has a kid, and even though she knows she's useless as a fighter... what the fuck was Oku thinking? It's just a mess. He should have killed off both of them in Italy. Or even better he could have introduced new characters in Italy that would join Nerdo/Anzu... anything, just fucking anything would have made more sense.

@Damura: He could of shown up, not sure how he would have joined the team though (the current one at least). And it was a shame the side chapters didn't show more.
Osaka did have some interesting cannon fodder. And I expect some of the new team to die as well, but I can see why they'd survive the first fight or two. Considering the team probably isn't getting anyone else, they all got time for an introduction (kind of rare for a gantz team), and they haven't been thrown into heavy action yet.

As for the Osaka team, other than Oka, Kuwabara, and Hanaki, Anzu and Nerdo were the most prominent and some of the few that would actually want to volunteer for this. Guess I can understand why Oku would favor developing on some familiar characters rather than introducing another two new ones. And beggars really can't be choosers. They weren't asking for only the strongest to help, anyone with a suit or gun could hopefully provide some sort of support (Kishimoto jokes aside).
Though you do make a point about Anzu leaving her kid somewhere. Then again, she was gone for a while before revival. He may have already been relocated for all we know.

He could've made it so certain members of the Osaka team never died/retired. Then they could've taken the slots of some of the red shirts that we got instead.

Unless the redshirts are there just so we can punch in a couple numbers on the death toll.

EDIT: But Anzu shouldn't have been brought back--hell, I don't think she should've been in the manga in the first place. She just doesn't make sense in any context. How the hell did Kato fall for her just after the Buddha mission incident?

Ya I know what you mean but love is blind and leads people to do stupid things aka Kato and Anzu.Anyways hopefully some people well die latter on.

Its hard to say at this point other than all the newly introduced humans minus Tae and new Gantzters.

I thought it was pretty wild a couple chapters back when the Gantz died and Takeshi was about to bite the dust.

I dont think Anzu and Nerdo will be gone anytime soon.

It is hard to say. Pretty much everybody still has a story to tell. Anzu and Nerdo seem the most expendable. And perhaps one of the Kei's, though I doubt that will be for a while. I think Tae might die before the end as well.

What about the whole Gantz factory that Sebastian was investigating way back when? I hope they revisit that in the future, besides the Vampires and other notable individuals.

isn't the deaths of main characters the main reason gantz can't have a solid plot up until now? 343 chapters now and Oku finally realised the importance of characters!!
