    [JP] What is 純一郎杯?

純一郎杯 is a part of a chapter title from the manga 'Kami sen'. The full chapter title is "温泉卓球純一郎杯".

    And the context is:
the Izumi hotspring is holding a ping pong tournament. Also, being a harem manga, the participants happened to be all girls.

So, is "純一郎杯" --> Jun'ichirou Cup? Or has it another meaning? Oh, and I think there's no character named Jun'ichirou in the manga....I think...

Not really sure, but it seems to me that it's a reference to the "Koizumi Jun'ichirou Cup". Koizumi was a former Prime Minister of Japan and some tournaments do have a cup named after him. So, perhaps it's a humorous reference to it, just like having a Nobel Prize of ping pong.

    Hope this helps!

Mmmmmm, it seems that Jun'ichirou is a name for the character that everyone calls as "gramps". Being hasty again, sorry about that -_-. But yeah, it's also possible a humorous reference as what you have said. Thank you!

    Here is additional info.

    杯(hai): Cup
    選手権(senshuken) or 大会(taikai): Championships
    試合(shiai): meet, game, match

Nastia Liukin (a former Olympics gymnastics gold medalist) does not compete at Nastia Liukin Cup for example. It is normal that you don't see Junichiro in the manga.

Thanks for the info! It just that Jun'ichirou seems to come out of the blue for me (guess it's due to my lack of knowledge). As I continue to read the manga, it seems that Gramps Jun'ichirou is the sponsor for tournament.
