    [JP] よいとされている and 通でない?

Can anyone help me with this chunk of text?

    この音が楽しそうに鳴る笛ほど
    よりおもちゃっぽくてよいとされているが
    その違いはよほど通でないと聞き分けられないんだ

Context: They're talking about a squeaky noise that recorders make when you twist them

For the first line I have "This sound is what makes the recorder seem fun"
I'm having trouble with the よいとされている part of the second line... Does that mean something along the lines of "necessary to be good"?
And I have no idea what the 通でない part of the third line means...

Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

    Re: [JP] よいとされている and 通でない?

    *flute/笛is the subject of **

**よいとされている:is/are considered to be good (better in this sentence)

***通(つう): an expert (Example: Otaku in manga)

    The compound sentence Structure:
    (1st) The more/ -er [subject] verb + , (2nd) the more/ -er [subject] verb + , but(が)
    (3rd)
