Finally someone picked it up!
The first chapter was funny. I laughed at Lucius' reaction when he went outside the Japanese bath house, as well as the juice part
Yeah, his reaction to modern pollution was hilarious. The look on his face was priceless. Same goes for his first taste of flavored milk. I guess next chapter will be his adventures in the world of modern bottling and preservation techniques.
Hug me guys. I insisted our TLor to do this one. Other staff (+1admin) was against it so we did it undercover. lol
Anyways, I really enjoyed the first chapter. Didn't really get the comedic vibe when i first saw the raws. Lucius' reaction and false assumptions to the Japanese are so hilarious. And I like the air pollution reaction too.
Didn't regret doing those painful redraws and whatnot.
for raDar. Thanks for working on this! ^^
I've been waiting for this to be scanlated, and even posted about it just the other day! My psychic powers must be working.
So far so good with the first chapter. Lucius reacting so strongly to various modern luxuries that we take for granted and then trying his best to reproduce them was hilarious. The whole concept of this manga is so interesting to me and as a Manga Taisho Award winner, I have to believe that it'll be well-written throughout. Looking forward to more!
I really like the historical references used in the series. The author did her research and that really pushed the whole story to another level. Lucius's expressions were priceless... they were really hilarious! My favorite part was when Lucius thought that the flat-faced slave helped him to do a "poison-test" of the flavored-milk... that really cracked me up XD
Thanks for the hard work alt! Because of the commercial success and critical response in Japan, Romae was a project a lot of international fans were looking forward too. Glad to see that Clockwork Lies came through, even if you had to work undercover! I'm looking forward to chapter two.
Ok, for you too. But seriously, thanks for tl'ing this! It did have a lot of text, so I'm sure it wasn't a breeze or quick job.
I agree that the mangaka's research paid off with the references. And I think she really nailed how someone from ancient Rome would perceive the things and people that Lucius encountered in modern Japan. Like how he sees flat-faced foreigners all gathered in a separate bathhouse and his first conclusion is that they're slaves. For him, I'm sure that would have just been a normal and rational conclusion.
meh, idk about the historical correctness of this, it's all so hypothetical and he should at least have started to doubt when he saw a 'flat-face' running the bath, no?
it's really sad though he didn't talk more than that one latin sentence. assuming these people are slaves he could have tried ordering them around - I mean until he stepped outside he msut've assumed he's in rome .. oh well
oh also it's very funny how he wanted to copy each of the things he saw to like 110% as if it was important in which kind of bottle the milk is served >.<
anyway, do you think that the text at the end is indicating Lucius might "go" to other places than modern Japan? like some sauna culture, hammam or hot springs. not neccessarily anywhen soon since there seem to be three volumes already
Hey guys, here's chapter 2
Enjoy~ [Thermae Romae 2]
Heres Chapter 3, Enjoy
Ahaha, Lucius' reactions to his realization that he's been utterly defeated
I just love his interaction with the modern world, like how he's amazed by simple things such as... a cloth that is used to rub off the dirt, lol.
I'd be amazed by wash clothes too, if all I had ever seen was an iron trowel
Lucius' moment of defeat was hilarious. I am glad that the beer made him feel better though.
