Hm, I wouldn't want it to get overused honestly. I've just noticed, it got played specifically for Tonpa a lot. it has this underhanded sneaky vibe to it. Which a lot of HxH villains do have. I think Genthru/Bomber would also be a good fit for this song, when he's explaining his powers to the other players for instance. Welfin is pretty sneaky, maybe during one of his internal monologues to become the shadow king, I could see that too. But it was one of my favorite tracks from the first soundtrack.

whoops. I'm really curious about the new soundtracks now anyway. I saw that Chrollo, Hisoka, Nobunaga all have their own songs for the next arc. Nobunaga had an awesome theme song in the 1999 series! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsk9QkCSTbU
So I'm really curious what it will sound like now. It makes sense he has at least 1 or 2 themes during the Yorknew arc in both adaptations since he's the Phantom Troupe member Gon and Killua are forced to deal with the most.

I want to know how everyone first felt about Nen. Because to be honest, I don't like it. Why? Because it took away the realism of the fights that we got in the first two arcs.

The fights and abilities were normal and had some realism in it, and it was a thing I liked about HxH. But now, it's going to be Nen vs Nen, a clash of super powers like any regular shonen, my power level is greater than yours, etc, and it took the mysterious, scary side from Hisoka and Illumi.

Did Togashi had to add such a shonen cliche to his series?!

Hunter x Hunter was never supposed to be realistic.

12 year old assassins who can rip out hearts is NOT realistic.

However HxH is able to make such unrealistic items believable.
Meaning that in the world of HxH 12 year old assassins makes sense.

If that's how you view nen then you don't seem to have a very good concept of it.

If you think introducing nen takes away the strategy you are VERY much mistaken.

Ah the gimps. I like the gimps in the same sort of way I enjoy Tonpa. They're sneaky but overall pretty pathetic and petty. I hope this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGDDtMVhP34 (which seemed to play for a lot of Tonpa's underhanded moments) is used for these guys in Heaven's Arena.

I think that song "stalking prey" would sound good for the following scenarios

1. Sadaso kidnapping Zushi

2. Killua spying on Kastro


and much later

3. Gon and Killua tracking Machi and Nobuanaga.

I always got a sorta spy thriller vibe from it. Not like a car chase scene. But something more like a spy sneaking into a highly guarded building without being detected. It sounds rather "low key" to me.

It very much is a spy scene! They hired temps to steak out the situation and trailed them for a while, then had to wait some more while the tension builds. All the while they were secretly being tracked themselves by Phinx and Pakunoda.

Me too!! I like the gimps, not sure why. That's my nickname for them, since they are all handicapable. I was always a bit sad we never got to see him fight. The new designs for everyone look fairly spot on and I'm digging the new colors for the most part for em.

One thing I didn't like about the 1999 anime is they were never clearly stated as being crippled and Sadaso for instance had both arms! That actually might be the censorship I disliked MOST about the first adaptation since it changed how a character looked a lot and the pain they had to go through to get Nen.


I'd love it if later in the manga we got to see other Heaven's Arena fighters just to make the place relevant again, does anyone think anyone in Heaven's Arena is even close to Hisoka's level? I mean its definitely implied that they are not, since he frequently doesn't sign up for fights, and Kastro was the only guy able to actually hit him (I'm sure he was just dicking around and trolling during the fight as usual). So if Kastro is amongst the strongest fighters....yea...

I don't think Hisoka is looking for his equal to fight there but probably more
talent prospects...people like Gon and Killua who can deem worthy of fighting one day.

Plus I think Hisoka enjoys killing even weaklings.

He's pretty arbitrary about who he murders when you think about it.

Oh and I forgot who mentioned the double episode idea...

But I think it would work excellent for Hisoka vs Kastro and Hisoka vs Gon.

Also, what you wrote reminded me of a similar incident with Bleach. Kukaku Shiba has only one arm in the manga, yet in the anime they gave her a prosthetic. That one's not so bad though. And as for Heaven's Arena, I really do think the series should go back there at one point or another. It should at least become relevant to the story again.

I think what it might be is that Hisoka simply loves killing but he gets disappointed when everyone is dead because then he has nobody left to kill.

That's why he wants to fight someone like Netero because he would be incredibly difficult to kill. Thus it would be more fun.

Yea this was an "off model" animation day, though I think its animation was still pretty good for its time ( Killua's Illumi face looks pretty spot on to me). Sadaso had the same voice as Chrollo! That was weird for me when I went BACK and watched Heaven's Arena in 1999 again. I really wanna know who will voice Chrollo in the new series, I thought that actor has a nice soothing charming but creepy voice.

^ Also mrsticky, I was the one who mentioned a double episode. I think that'd be sooooo cool to be treated to 4 chapters worth of juicy content for a special occasion. I'd be willing to go a week with no hunter to get 2 episodes together. It's neat whenever Naruto does it anyway. Hmm is it the fear he induces, the joy of the act of ending a life or the challenge you think Hisoka enjoys most about Killing?
I'm honestly really curious about that, I guess I've never given it much thought beyond he loves to kill strong guys and only wants to fight those he deems worthy.

To be fair the old anime was mostly cel animation which means it was easier to make mistakes. The drawings do look a little weird though, but some of the best looking episodes featured a more simplistic art style (kind of like in Naruto, less detail but more fluid animation).

I am not faulting anybody. Just interesting how I didn't notice these mistakes before.

I really hope madhouse animates this scene just like the manga. I just didn't really care for how it was handled in the 1999 anime. Killua threating Sadaso with a knife was just straight up frightening!
