Gantz 347 Discussion/348 Prediction Thread

I moved to Japan 2 weeks ago and just got a scanner this weekend.

I hope this works, it's my first try:

wow, The normal guns are bad to use on the aliens as they make the spores go everywhere. So they would have to use the H gun to flatten everything so it stops that. You would think that Sekine was going to be okay after making a smart quick choice to cut his arm off, I think Oku has done well on how he has made the humans look while infected. I kinda hated how they all ducked down hoping no spores would land on them... like wouldn't you try to use the x gun, lock on then shoot see if it goes? I guess they couldn't asap dodge because they would bump into each other...wait they are wearing gantz suits they could power jump backwards...So there is nothing wrong with the kids and funny enough no spore hit them, maybe because they like the kids or the kids lack infection because they are children lol.

I was going to say this a few days ago, but I wonder if severing limbs from these things will lead to the creation of more.

I mean, with Makoto's arm coming off and spawning little heads, I can imagine that leading to more of these abominations.

Potatobaron is a champ for scanning it though.

Such a disgusting way to die, kudos for imagining something like this as an alien attack.

Though besides the skull being forcefully split, that which surely doesnt feel very good,
I can think of a function for such a death. It's like dying in such a way doesn't benefit the
aliens in any way. It's only traumatizing for the other Gantzers to witness thus far.

And the tall aliens still haven't made their moves yet....

Would have been better in my opinion if Sekine had cut off his own arm and that had been the end of it. A second bubble hits another character... In a moment of panic they refuse to mutilate their own body and back away from the group. In the end they transform.

The experience of having to cripple yourself and live with that is well worth exploring.

Anyone else think this chapter was kind of shit in overall quality? The drawings were mostly good - everything involving the aliens looked great. The character portrayals and overall story were very poor though.

Heaps of bubbles pour into the room with all the civilians/nerdo/anzu. Nerdo and Anzu do NOTHING to dodge them and they're fine. The bubbles miss ALL of the aliens.

Did anyone notice how ridiculous Tokyo team looked trying to dodge the bubbles? They lean forward slightly and they're surprised when they get hit... Come on... at least drop to the ground or something jesus fucking christ.

I've changed my mind about the children. They seem normal enough to me. The boy was startled when the chicken exploded. That's all the evidence I need. They sure looked suspicious last time though.

@102jayday: I think the spores were either fast enough or numerous enough to make the X-gun useless. H-gun would definitely make sense though. The problem of course is that the kids are in the way.

It's going to be an interesting chapter. I would not be surprised if the entire team was wiped out to be honest. Most weapons are useless, the malformed humans could be extremely dangerous too. If you had to fight them AND dodge bubbles at the same time, game over. I could not imagine a normal human succeeding.

I think the path to victory is to wipe out the insects around the children in one go (H-gun, what else?). Bad luck kids. If anyone could do it I'd guess it would be the old man. He's not really expressing the right emotions for the end of the world. Sociopath! Definitely. It'll either be him or the sword guy.

I wonder if the team really will take these guys on. Probly better off running away.

It's weird that Kaiji could cut Sekine's suit with one blow when Izumi in the Tae Mission couldn't cut anyone with the sword before ruining the gantz suit first. At the end the suit started leaking but that was after those arms came out of his head.

Let's where this goes, body parts keep coming out of his body each one resembling Sekine's look, even with the gantz suit, x guns and x shootguns attached to his body. I guess they are just meat and don't have the same function of the real ones.

I think the whole situation with the civilians could have been avoided if that guy didn't went nuts and started attacking the bugs. You can clearly see the difference of their actions before and after the attack, even the bug with long legs didn't defend himself before from that guy and that bug can easily kill a human with his legs or his acid.

Could technically have something to do with the will of the user. For example the suit pumps itself up when you want to jump further or punch harder. Perhaps if you permit it anything can pass through. Perhaps the aliens had already weakened that portion of the suit. Or it's just another continuity error as usual.

Are you sure about that though? I thought the swords could go through suits. EDIT: maybe that was the yokai(?) demons in Osaka, fighting the S-trio or whatever. I can't quite remember if they finished them off or HS finished them off. Or maybe the demons killed the Osakans, and then HS killed the demons. :/

I think Oku's laughing at humanity now.. Something like "even now you're still messing things up". People like to overpower and subdue things... they're proud of it when they succeed. The second things go wrong though they absolutely shit themselves. I just thought it was really interesting how they went from "fuck yeah we can kill these things" to an all-out massacre. Oops.

Gantz swords can't cut through suits before ruining them, just check out the Tae mission and you would see Izumi attacking Kurono, Sakata and Sakurai with the gantz sword but not cutting through the suit with one single blow before the leaking.

Hikawa's and vampires swords in general can't either before the leaking, but there was this moment in the Osaka mission (the one you mention), were this bald dude got stabbed in the back by Hikawa and we didn't saw any leaking...but at least that could be explained as Oku forgetting to add some details or simply omitting them since those panels weren't very detailed but at least there was some battle were the damage could be explained before Hikawa killed the guy.

Here Sekine's suit starts leaking after his head is fucked up, way after Kaiji cut his arm.

Alien blades are a different subject though...

It looks like the spores transmit whatever that Nurarihyon and the shifter Reika killed during the elementals mission were using; the shape-shifter that Reika killed way back then also mimiced Gantz weapons, but they were just meat, non-functional. It was also able to mimic other people, etc. as well as the form of the aliens they were fighting that mission. It even faked being Reika. The boss alien in the 1000 arms mission did something similar, too. It looked like it absorbed some of one of the Gantz team's memories, as well. It's looking like the infection from those spores may affect a myriad of different aliens, as well as humans, and that at least some of the aliens can control the effects, (or are controlled by them). The spores may have been the primary enemy throughout the entire Gantz series, a race of shapeshifters that infiltrates any race it comes in contact with.

as i predicted, the chapter is as pathetic, ill made, and needlessly gruesome as i expected. all those innocent people are gonnaget butchered, just liek always. boring, and so pathetic it does not tug at any of my usually sensitive heartsrings. why not mix it up and the pople get saved? havethese guysreall ever savd anyone? why the hell go through this butcher fest? why not plotprogression? ARRGHH, ifeel so betrayed here. unless the author jsut wants to stone wall us all into a bad, adrupt ending. seems like it; gantz is dead without viable replacement, they are stuck, and they have not bothered to discover a way to kill the defeat the giants. ove two hundred chapters, and they end it like this....... certainly not gonna bother with the next, likely, ten chapters if this continues.

What's interesting about this light attack? is that it seems a lot more dangerous then the giants ever was. I don't know why they're watching in amusement, if that chicken thing dispersed that on them they'd be fucked too wouldn't they? Hell this attack is even beyond Cherry. It's immaterial and instant death.

I thought Cherry's power were "inmaterial" too. Remember how he killed all those giants inside the city in an instant?

Cherry doesn't have to touch you to kill you, these light balls have to touch you first in order to turn you into a monster.

Welcome back! Now that you mention it, the guy with black hair who gets infected this chapter, his head looks like one of those pawn oni aliens with their faces all messed up.

Yeah Cherry could make all these explode, he would have to focus on making 20 of them pop without killing all the gantz guys there too.


I have to say this is one of the best chapters for ages (maybe because of the shock factor and detail of the mutations)
I love page 19..with the trans "into him!? It went into him!? He's fucked then!!" Made me lol.
I like the characters now, Yoshikawa is my favourite but ryuuji is a awesome little dude though. Sekine was cool this chapter, but his screwed.

Oh Oku...you just had to make a female one in the background left of screen didn't you...with tons of boobies and buttocks. Oh why not have Reika wear a nurse outfit too because all she does is say "we have to stop the bleeding" checks on the humans when it was just her and kei. Well she has been pretty good at that role though but why is it always the main chick is the medic lol...

If I was nerdo and Anzu now..I would retreat, get some distance or get on higher ground and snipe these aliens and mutated humans. Because everytime they hit one the spores will come pouring out.......So they have to take out the spores when they are exposed if not then its going to be a never ending repeat.
Now that I think of it...Cherry would be perfect against these aliens, He would be able to kill the aliens without the spores coming out, but then again they came out of the chicken by free will. But they are vulnerable when inside somebody because cherry can see inside a body and kill them within, who knows it could stop mutation or save the host.
