Coolest, Weirdest or Funniest Names

Manga is 99.99% of the time created by Japanese people raised in Japan so often times foreign or mythical names can sound pretty interesting to foreign readers. What are some names of characters that left an impression on you? It doesn't have to fit the three adjectives either: you can go for cutest, creepiest, hottest etc.

The coolest name is Alucard (Hellsing) which is cool because it's "dracula" backwards. I also like Kaiser de Emperana Beelzebub IV (from well... Beelzebub) and Mephisto Pheles (Ao no Exorcist).

On the other hand, the strangest name I've ever come across is Bo-bobo, and no, I'm not going to type out the name of the manga.

I like Gauche Suede (Tegami Bachi), it has some nice ring to it and I loved the name right from the start.

And Mikasa Ackermann (Shingeki no Kyojin) as it's just nice hearing a japanese? name together with a german one

Alucard is cool, but it as a word/name just still sounds awkward and/or ugly to me, despite how cool the character Alucard is...

Seras Victoria is so awesome and sexy

Rock (from Black Lagoon, though certainly Rock Lee from Naruto can be included too, lol), can't beat this name, lol, and it so goes with his character, too

Diva is another great name too, as Saya named her, she's got a beautiful singing voice, hehe, a Diva indeed

that's all I can think of for now... I have to do some research for more names... see if I can find some with actual meanings (non-asian/japanese) that I know of, lol.

I like a lot of the weird names featured in Bleach, especially those of the Arrancar. These include:

- Szayel Aporro Granz
- Wonderweiss Margera
- Ulquiorra Cifer
- Nnoitra Gilga
- Dordoni Alessandro Del Socaccio
- Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez (this one being my favourite, simply because his first name is so badass!)

Although I don't read Bleach, I'm aware that it has a lot of interesting names. I like (the character design of) Ulquiorra, and I always have to look up the spelling to remember his name.

You have good choices too! Naming a character is significant and comparing the traditional Askeladden with Askeladd helps understand Vinland Saga more.

A fun name for a protagonist is Monkey D. Luffy, but I'm sad not a lot of characters call him "Monkey".

I think at the moment the most coolest sounding names come from Ubel Blatt. The hero of the story goes by the name "Koinzell", but his real name is "Ascheriit". I have no idea what these names mean (or even if they are real!), but I like how different the two names sound.

I think these names are cool because "Koinzell" sounds very plain, and it ends the same way as "Rapunzel" does. Both characters have long blond hair as well! His former name, Ascheritt, sounds very noble--almost like something royalty would be called. Its the contrast in these two names that highlight the past and present life of the main character so well.

Bleach had some very wacky names indeed. But its even more interesting is that some of the arrancar are based on real names! Ulquiorra's name come from designer Patrcia Urquiola, Grimmjow comes from an architect called Nicholas Grimmshaw. Szyael's name comes from Alejandro Zaera Polo. Isn't that funny? xD

Hm, coolest without a doubt, and also tells the whole story of the character would have to Guts from Berserk, second to him would be Donquixote Doflamingo form One Piece, epic name with one of my favorite characters's names from books.

As for funny, Sakurai from Gantz, the meaning of it is full of win, no wonder they call him Cherry.

DGM have a few nice ones. Cross Marian, Klaud Nine and Road Kamelot all sound pretty distinctive and cool.

Justin Law from Soul Eater is another one. Suited for a modern and hip priest.

There is also Ribbons Almark from Gundam 00. Got a feeling it might sound completely ridiculous to someone with a better knowledge of language. But an evil mastermind villain with the name of 'Ribbons' does stand out.
