Re: The Second Gantz Live Action Movie

The first movie was alright. I never like seeing a live action movie cause they always always always fail to live up to the original.

And the sequel I didnt bother to watch.

I have it, but just skimmed, saw the vamps, saw that for whatever reason there was two Kato's.

Then Kei walks into a train like in the ending of the anime.

I'd rather see a full CG movie of Katastrophe.

    That would be amazing.

"While many can pursue their dreams in solitude, other dreams are like great storms blowing hundreds, even thousands of dreams apart in their wake. Dreams breathe life into men and can cage them in suffering. Men live and die by their dreams. But long after they have been abandoned they still smolder deep in men's hearts. Some see nothing more than life and death. They are dead, for they have no dreams."

The second movie is terrible, especially the ending. I find it brave for them to make their sort-of-conclusion to the live action/movie franchise of Gantz, but it just doesn't make the cut. I'd choose the manga story line without a doubt.

They obviously didn't learn anything from the anime.

In terms of plot this movie was pretty damn bad. I did however love the action sequence in the train. That was pretty badass!

I wonder what made them think it was okay to make a second movie?

It was always planned as 2 movies. By the time the first one was released the second one was well into production. That's why we got them so close together. I think they were released only a few months apart.

WHAT!? I thought it was hella bad and I'm a huuuuuuuuuge Gantz fan. It was just not right in so many ways, but everyone has their opinion.

Train scene was hit or miss for me.

    Pros:
Decent sword fights - especially the female vampire. Iirc she put up a damn good fight.
Kei getting thrown off the train - cool scene

    Cons:
Vampires were useless. 0 Gantz casualties and like a dozen vampires dead
Blocking handguns by shoving the tip of the sword into the um, hole thing. Where the bullets come out. Haha I can't remember what it's called. Barrel maybe?

Re: The Second Gantz Live Action Movie

Yeah it was a cool action scene but it looked very UN-realistic in my opinion; the swords that the Gantzers used looked like foam swords coz they were jiggling a lot. I was a fan of the cosplay but when they fought they looked somehow very uncool and those characters that fought weren't right, I know that it's ordinary people spawning in the room but come on they could've put in more bad ass characters that would've suited the scene.
But I have to say it was a great scene as you mentioned:
    - Sword fights were pretty cool
    - Kei thrown off the train
But whilst doing both of these two things, they looked super uncool. I guess that's the reason why I didn't enjoy these two movies as much as I thought I would; Kurono was now a Good guy who valued human life and he never really developed that and the scenes were super Dramatic. But Japanese live actions always turn out the same... BAD! But not all of them turn out bad I enjoyed both 20th century boys and Oldboy.

Swords are a bit flexible though aren't they? You'd expect long ones like to 'wobble' a bit.

I actually liked Kei. He was one of the only decent actors in the movie. I admit I skipped just about everything except the fight scenes, but he did a good job of portraying the reckless/cocky version of Kei from mission 3.

Re: The Second Gantz Live Action Movie

Sorry if bumping this rubs anyone up the wrong way but I just thought I'd comment on the film since I've watched it.

What a piece of crap! Part 1 was acceptable due to actually being faithful to an extent but Part 2 reminded of what the Gantz anime did with its ending (i.e. wrapping things up with a completely bullshit filler).

Did anyone notice that the filmmakers just fused a bunch of characters? Since when did Sakurai = Tojo? Or Host Samurai = Izumi? Clearly they thought that a bunch of special effects alone would make the film a success....why would they completely skip the original story, which was especially awesome at this point??

    Epic failure.
