Re: Weekly Shonen Jump [2011] - Discussion and TOC Talk - Part 2

How about a list with the numbers of the chapters? I do it every week, so here's the list for issue 12. (I use the lineup from the shonenjump website.)
The numbers should be right (I'm 99% sure they are xD)

    Weekly Shonen Jump #12 (20/02/12)
    • High kyuu #1 – Haruichi Furudate
    • Kuroko's Basketball #153 - Tadatoshi Fujimaki
    • Nurarihyon no mago #190 - Hiroshi Shiibashi
    • NARUTO #575 - Masashi Kishimoto
    • Toriko #176 - Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro
    • Genzon! Kodai Seibutsu-shi Packy #13 - Retsu
    • BEELZEBUB #144 - Ryuhei Tamura
    • magico #47 - Naoki Iwamoto
    • Bakuman. #167 - Tsugumi Ohba / Takeshi Obata
    • BLEACH #481 - Tite Kubo
    • Gintama #390 - Hideaki Sorachi
    • Reborn! #373 - Akira Amano
    • Nisekoi #14 - Naoshi Komi
    • Medaka Box #134 - Ishin Nishio / Akira Akatsuki
    • ST&RS #31 - Ryousuke Takeuchi / Masaru Miyokawa
    • Inumarudashi #168 - Kouji Ohishi
    • Kurogane #23 - Haruto Ikezawa
    • SKET DANCE #221 - Kenta Shinohara
    • Kochikame #1739 - Osamu Akimoto
    • ONE PIECE #657 - Eiichiro Oda
    • HUNTER X HUNTER #336 - Yoshihiro Togashi

    Edit:

I just remembered...since the 2012 issues of Jump startet...Gintama didn't have a single Colorpage...maybe because it's ranking so great and doesn't need any? xD I'm just curious if anyone has an idea why...and of course...I'm missing Sorachi's colorpages.

Gintama had the cover a couple times. That sorta counts. Also there've only been like 6 issues out this year so far.

However people like it enough to buy volumes but not enough to vote for it.
That sounds backwards. Purchasing a manga requires a degree of commitment, you have to actually spend money on the book - 420 Yen four times a year. The act of purchasing a volume also implies a desire for a permanent copy of Mago, something to re-read whenever the desire strikes. A vote on the other hand is just that, nothing but a check mark on a post card. No commitment was made, no money changed hands, and you can always vote for something else next time you buy Jump. It would be very silly to imply that someone likes something enough to buy it but not enough to vote in a weekly fan poll. Nor is there any reason to believe that the majority of Jump readers vote for the same three series every week. Is it not just as likely that some fans vote for the chapters they like the most that week? Voting patterns are probably completely random, with each individual having a different method of deciding what to vote for that week. But it does not make any sense to assume that Mago readers do not like the series enough to ever vote for it, yet are fond enough of the series to spend money on it.

I'm not going to be as harsh as Josl, I do think that Mago is something different from other Jump mangas, f.ex. it's pretty dark for a WSJ series. Fact is that the end of the Kyoto Arc was dragged and that a lot of fans got bored with it. It's another fact that it rarely has the quality and the charm of the mid-Kyoto Arc nowadays but the rating often seems inadequate, which leads me to the theory that most fans just aren't as hooked/interested anymore as they were back then, very similar to the trend here on MH were the section slowly died too. The series is still good though so it was able to maintain most of it's (long-term) fans, who are willing to buy the volumes.
Not quite. Mago polled well when it was brand new but crashed shortly after volume 1 went on sale. Even while sales were rising it was generally in the bottom 5. The Kyoto arc actually gave it a boost for a while, before dropping back down. But before Kyoto it polled about the same as it does now.

Kochikame is on 1732 (assuming both chapters in Issue 51 of 2011 were normal chapters), Naruto is on 574, Gintama is on 389, and Inumaru is on 166. Other than those everything else looks good.

You have to also remember that with Bleach they went into those negative chapters for a good while, so there's actually a lot more than 481 chapters.

There were 12 Turn Back the Pendulum chapters (-108 through -97). I forget how many other negative chapters there are but it is less than a volume. All are full length chapters though.

You sure about Kochikame? can't be such a big difference in the chapters numbers....where's your info from? o_O

I messed up with Narutos chapter because I included the latest one xD (happens somethimes, since it's beeing scanlated every week, so sorry about that.)

About most of the series (obviously without the new ones): I have picked up chapter numbers from 2010 and doing this list every week since then, but since a few series don't get scanlated on a weekly base some mistakes slip through.

    Thanks for correcting it.

edit: About Bleach - I stick to the actual chapter numbers. Why should I write the total of chapters behind BLEACH if it's on chapter 481? would just confuse a lot of people xD

About Gintama - I know it's been on the Cover, but there are series who've already got 3 color pages in 2012...sure...there'll be colorpages of Gintama...but there already should have been one xD inumaru, st&rs, magico and Gintama are the only series without CP in 2012.

I actually counted using information from http://www.biwa.ne.jp/~starman/index.htm and then cross referenced the information with the chapter titles from the tanks and wsj issues from 2010/2011. I've been keeping track of chapter numbers of wsj series since Issue 1 of 2010 in an excel file.

Because there are more than 481 chapters. Almost two volumes worth. Kubo gives flashbacks negative numbers. They were serialized in WSJ just like any other chapter and appear in tankobon just like any other chapter. An entire volume, number 36, is taken up by these chapters. As is half of volume 37. Do as you will but you are arbitrarily ignoring several volumes of the series and an entire arc.

And in Shônen Jump 22 (2011), Kochi Kame celebrate the fact that the series had exceeded the 1700 chapters.
    http://natalie.mu/comic/news/49070

So after that, had 39 jump. So if chapter 1700 had in Jump 22, its chapter 1739 in Shônen Jump 12.
Kochikame made its debut in 1976 in Issue 42. There were 10 chapters that year since there were only 52 issues w/ 48-49 being a double issue. Below are how many issues there were in each subsequent year:

    77: 51
    78: 50
    79: 50
    80: 50
    81: 51
    82: 50
    83: 50
    84: 50
    85: 50
    86: 50
    87: 50
    88: 51
    89: 49
    90: 50
    91: 48
    92: 48
    93: 48
    94: 48
    95: 48
    96: 48
    97: 48
    98: 48
    99: 48
    00: 48
    01: 48
    02: 48
    03: 48
    04: 49
    05: 48
    06: 48
    07: 48
    08: 48
    09: 49
    10: 48
    11: 47
    12: 10 (up through issue 12)

Since Kochikame has never missed an issue add all of those up and you get 1731. Now, Kochikame had 2 chapters in Issue 51 of 2011. If they were both numbered this equates to 1732 chapters. Again, I cross referenced this information with issues in 2010/2011 with the names that were assigned to chapter numbers in the tanks (since they are not numbered in the issues). Those issues are in storage otherwise I would attempt to do this again. The most recent issue I have is 48 from 2011 (the next newest not in storage is from 2008) with a title of ポリスアニマルランドの巻き (Police animal land something...). Wikipedia used to have the tanks list chapter names and numbers but they have since updated it to only include volume names and numbers, so I'm not able to do exactly what I did before, plus I don't think chapter 1718 is in tank form anyway. I'm not sure why the chapter numbers are that far off, but I know I will be keeping my chapter record the way I have it currently, with chapter 1732 corresponding with Issue 12 from 2012.

I saw on MAL that it has only 13 episodes. I was thinking it was incorrect, but it seems it is true.

New Prine of Tennis is serializing in monthly, so the anime can easily can catch up with manga. Most of anime-adaptations for monthly mangas don't run that long.

Kaiten-san, I really understand what you mean. I am not ignoring it and I never would (since the Turn Back the Pendulum Chapters are some of my favorites~ I'm a Hirako Fan)

But the list I made/make is to show the number of the chapter of the respectively Manga running in the WSJ magazine and not how many chapters the series have. I hope you understand it. I'm really not trying to be the bad guy here ^^ If Kubo-sensei writes "BLEACH 481." on his chapter, I write it on my list, if Togashi decides that Hunter X Hunter now is on Chapter 600 to make up for the time he's been absent or so, I'll write 600 xD

well...I can only apologize for my English .
